Well, AP, we know which newsstand released them early. I'll bring a couple of classmates with me, and we can go hang out down there, quiz ourselves with the Law in a Flash cards, and wait for the inevitable.awesomepossum wrote:I'm just interested to see if OS is going on a crazy adventure to get the rankings again.

It's much more fun discussing the rankings from #15 to #30 (and #31-50 too) because fluctuations are easier to argue for or against. we could debate this stuff forever, but, as I said before, every school #25-50 should be tied for #26. They really are similar.

I think that schools in the 25-30ish range have a distinctly more impressive faculty and student body when compared to, say, schools ranked 35-50. Just an opinion though.PDaddy wrote:It's much more fun discussing the rankings from #15 to #30 (and #31-50 too) because fluctuations are easier to argue for or against. we could debate this stuff forever, but, as I said before, every school #25-50 should be tied for #26. you are seriously going to say that bc is comparable to northeastern? or that GW is equal to catholic university?letsdoit1982 wrote:Corrected it for you.PDaddy wrote:It's much more fun discussing the rankings from #15 to #30 (and #31-50 too) because fluctuations are easier to argue for or against. we could debate this stuff forever, but, as I said before, every school #25-100 should be tied for #26. A lot of people are these boards are really into group think. 1 person says every school outside of the T17 is the same and people jump on in and keep spitting it out. Its moronic.timertimer61 wrote:you are seriously going to say that bc is comparable to northeastern? or that GW is equal to catholic university?letsdoit1982 wrote:Corrected it for you.PDaddy wrote:It's much more fun discussing the rankings from #15 to #30 (and #31-50 too) because fluctuations are easier to argue for or against. we could debate this stuff forever, but, as I said before, every school #25-100 should be tied for #26. There is actually a noticeable line in prestige drawn between the T18 (not 17) and those below them. A UCLA or UT-Austin degree is still highly recognized as portable; WUSTL and Emory are regarded as regional schools. Job placement and legal name recognition reflect this. It's not an enormous difference, but there is one.Blindmelon wrote:A lot of people are these boards are really into group think. 1 person says every school outside of the T17 is the same and people jump on in and keep spitting it out. That said, there are some oddities to the rankings that make this a little more confusing than it has to be. BC and ND both seem to have prestige and alumni networks that are more nationwide and stronger than WUSTL, but they're both ranked below WUSTL in the USNWR.

Erm... I don't put USC with Vand/UT/UCLA... but thats just me. I don't think trying to rank BC/BU/GW/WUSTL/Emory/ND, etc. against each other is all that helpful. Frankly, they don't compete with each other that often (well, BU/BC does), so saying one is definitely better than other is stupid. Where the whole outside the T17 nothing matters gets ridiculous is when people start thinking that 'Dozo is better than GW/BC/BU for NYC. Or that somehow Catholic and GW are in the same league. Not that they all aren't blown to hell ITE, but there is a large distinction in job prospects between a lot of schools outside the T17. Yea, for biglaw they're all screwed, but thats not the only game out there.vanwinkle wrote:There is actually a noticeable line in prestige drawn between the T18 (not 17) and those below them. The University of Washington has fallen somewhere between #22 and #30 in the USN rankings for all but three of the last 20 years, yet it rarely makes the hypothetical top 30s posted by people on TLS. East Coast bias?

UCLA and UT aren't very portable. Hell, most of the schools 7-14 are barely portable.vanwinkle wrote:There is actually a noticeable line in prestige drawn between the T18 (not 17) and those below them. What makes UCLA, UT and Vandy better is that they are unmatched regional powerhouses. UCLA, UT and Vandy beat all the schools below them in their home markets and regions, and beat most of the t14 in their home region and markets. WUSTL and Emory have seriously competition with UIUC, ND, and UGA even in their home markets.

It's a matter of perennial amusement to me how every year people gleefully predict the breakup of the T14 and how every year they are disappointed.

Plus if UT or UCLA bests Gtown, I bet TLS just starts calling it the T13.nealric wrote:It's a matter of perennial amusement to me how every year people gleefully predict the breakup of the T14 and how every year they are disappointed.

I get that Blindmelon's is probably BU trolling, but I really can't see how anyone could rank BU and BC more than a spot apart. While ideally their ranking should be tied, right next to each other would work as well. But these schools are IDENTICAL...Rowinguy2009 wrote:I'll play....

What is with everyone making Notre Dame a top 20 school?
Firms obviously don't think so, even their own students admit that people on their law review who are top 10% are striking out at OCI.

Just like all the schools ranked 30-13....

They are bad but not that bad. I'm guessing top 10% and LR at WUSTL, Emory, Minn, etc aren't striking, and I know top 10% and LR at UT, UCLA, Vandy aren't.Pearalegal wrote:Desert Fox wrote:What is with everyone making Notre Dame a top 20 school?

No clue about Emory and the like. Regardless, people at those schools are also reporting that the 1L class is almost back to normal for their summer positions.
