Which Law Schools Are Worth "Sticker"
In today's economy I feel that this is a very important question and one that alot of us are asking ourselves. Which schools are worth the sticker price when it comes to future job opportunities and placing you in a position where you can pay it back?

For me the question is not "sticker" but debt load. I say any T1 is worth sticker if (a) really want to be lawyer (b) less than 100k debt will be needed.
To me only the T20 are worth going above 100k debt for.

Also depends on what kind of law you want to go into. If you're not going into for the money, you should keep debt to a minimum.swheat wrote:For me the question is not "sticker" but debt load. I say any T1 is worth sticker if (a) really want to be lawyer (b) less than 100k debt will be needed.

a person with low t3 numbers: "hys"
a person with low t6 numbers: "hysccn"
a person with low t10... etc. etc.
Edit:
most people: "all the schools that I cannot get into"
a person with low t6 numbers: "hysccn"

I think the answer is somewhere between HYSCC (here for me) and NMVPB. Most of the T18 (maybe 25) could be justified by some.

It is going to vary based on an individual's alternatives. If you make 150k a year in your current job, there is a good chance that it is not worth paying for anything outside of HYS. If you have $$ to NYU, then paying sticker at Columbia wouldn't make sense. If your options are Boalt at full price, UC Hastings with 10k/year, or working at Walmart, then it makes sense to pay for Boalt. However, if it is Boalt at full price versus a full ride at USC, then I would say take the scholarship.
As someone who will likely not see a single T14 acceptance, I would gladly pay 80k/year (just for the sake of the hypothetical) for Harvard Law in lieu of a scholarship at a low-mid T1.

In-state sticker is worth it at UIUC, in a lot of cases. The sticker price is pretty low.Rand M. wrote:I think the answer is somewhere between HYSCC (here for me) and NMVPB. Most of the T18 (maybe 25) could be justified by some.
Out of the super expensive law schools in the top 10, paying sticker for anything higher than CCN would give me pause. Not to say I absolutely wouldn't do it, but no one can really predict how well they are going to do in law school, and bottom 25% of your class at a place like Duke or Penn might be in some trouble if they paid sticker. It's definitely a tough call.
