is gtown really THAT much better than UT/UCLA?
Does the fact that's it's been 14 for a while make THAT big a difference in terms of national prestige over UT/UCLA. Let's say we're talking about prestige outside of the states where those three respective schools are located.
Would you take Gtown PT over UT or UCLA?
Gtown at sticker vs UT/UCLA with a partial ride?

Not to both.
I would take georgetown sticker over the other two sticker. Even 10k a year from UCLA would change that.

TITCR +1 Even though it still depends where you want to work. If you know you want DC, LA, or TX that obviously changes thing. If unsure then aboveCupidity wrote:Not to both.

What if you like Austin or LA way better than DC but plan on working in say...Boston or something. Then what?

I'm WLed. I gotta decide whether I'd go over the others if I got in. I really don't love DC though.

Well you can go wherever you want. But if you know you want Boston then why not BU or BC. And if you love Austin and LA then why not just work there? Law school isnt a 3 year party and people often say they dont have time to enjoy the surroundings. Keep that in mind. Its an investment.imisscollege wrote:I'm WLed. All of these are great schools however. I dont want to be a pessimist. If you will be much happier at one over another and perform better then by all means go there.

Personally, I prefer apples to oranges. But if someone gave me 10k to eat oranges, I would do it.
On the other hand, it's cool to bash apples, as they are the worst of the T14 fruit. Only people who could not get GPM (Grapes, Pomegranate, Mango) eat apples.

GULC if you know you want New England. If you don't have geographic preferences, the schools are close enough that you should just go with where you're comfortable.
Of course, any school that gives you $ should take precedence.

Decide whether you want to be on the West or East coast. Then pick GULC or UCLA. Pick UT if they toss you substantially more than either of those two, or if you wouldn't mind living in Texas should your grades not end up being too stellar.
EDIT: Definitely UCLA with partial ride over GULC. UCLA will be way cheaper then, since you can get in-state tuition in Cali for years 2 and 3.

Can G be Guava instead of Grapefruit or did you purposely pick that fruit because of it's crappiness?

In terms of national Lay prestige, YES Geogetttown is better.
But in terms of region not so much.
If you want LA, TCR is UCLA
If you want Texas South/centralish, then Texas
If you want anywhere else in the country, Georgetown will edge out the other two, but then it would come down to grades and connections. IE top 10 percent at UCLA/Texas beating median at gTTT.

From the FAQ:
Ken wrote:Some have argued that the top 14 law schools are national law schools, having strong placement opportunities throughout the nation. However, the fact that most graduates of UCLA and Texas practice in California and Texas respectively is likely due to choice more than limitations.

Have you seen UCLA's tuition hikes?
60k out of state, 50k in state. GULC is cheaper (at 43k) than instate UCLA will be once they kick in.

Re: is gtown really THAT much better than UT/UCLA?
Yea, it's getting pretty ridiculous. In a year or two, for applicants who have ~equal scholarship amounts to UCLA and USC, it might make sense for many to take USC over UCLA. I can't imagine the small prestige boost would be worth the future tuition difference.nealric wrote:LOL

As to the OP, I would strongly consider UT with $$ over GULC at sticker, but it would have to be serious $$, enough to make UCLA a fair amount cheaper than GULC after factoring in the tuition increase, for me to take UCLA in that situation...

2nding an earlier poster. If you got into UCLA/UT, you're a lock for BC/BU, and you'll probably get money. Make sure you've got those lined up in case you don't get GULC. Either of those schools will be better for practicing in Boston than UCLA/UT. Look at the rosters of firms you'd be interested in working for--packed with BC/BU.

I am into BC/BU. WLed at gtown, into UT, and waiting on UCLA but somewhat optimistic.
I don't want to work at a firm. If I can't get a clerkship, I want to work for the DA. Does this change things any?

GULC/UT/UCLA will almost by definition be better than BC/BU for any variety of job (UT does especially well for clerking, better than UCLA, by the way), but geographical preferences should be your first pick. If you know you want New England, BC/BU will be best for you. If you aren't set on New England, UT or GULCimisscollege wrote:I am into BC/BU. What he said. GULC/UT are better for clerking in general than BU/BC. BC, by the way, has the better reputation for clerking/govt. work. I'd say that if you want Boston and you get money at BU/BC but none at GULC, you should opt for BU/BC, especially since you're not looking at an enormous salary.
If you do go BU/BC, visit both schools as their atmospheres are very different.

ya I think I'm more of a BC kind of person. I think I've pretty much chosen it over BU. But I have a DC trip at the end of feb, a trip to Austin scheduled for late march and a tentative trip to LA in april, depending on my admissions decision. I really need to figure out where the hell I want to live, you're right.
