Corn and cows vs more corn and more cows?

Post by twopoodles » Fri Jan 08, 2010 7:17 pm

I know most of you would choose something else entirely, but I can't take my kids too far from their grandparents so it comes down to Iowa (likely without money and without residency) or Nebraska, full ride (top 1/3), with residency should I lose the scholarship.

Do you want to work in Nebraska only or is working in Iowa or other midwest states an option?

If you plan on staying in the area after graduation as well, then I might opt for NE and save the money. Why go into debt if you know what you want to do?

I would LOVE to not live here for the rest of my life! Even Iowa would be great. BUT, there are things to say for Nebraska. The job market here is pretty good compared to the rest of the country. Omaha just got named the fasted recession-recovering city and the truth is, unless you build houses, we barely had a recession.

I am not totally sure what I want to do, but leaning toward immigration law.

Well, I gotta say it may be worth it for you to keep your debt low and go with Nebraska. BTW: You have a really famous alumni at Nebraska, Ted Sorenson.

Top 1/3 is steep - do you have any leverage to get them to 1/2 or easier? That's a tough requirement. Plus, Iowa has significantly better job prospects and somewhat more portability (you can get all around the midwest with an Iowa degree).

I'm torn, though, because free is free.
