True, but Berkeley actually went down in class size from graduating class of 2012 to 2013 (292 to 286 students) and took a hit in biglaw + fedclerk numbers (60.3% to 55.8%). As arklaw13 pointed out, this is UMich/GULC-level outcomes (which are still awesome compared to the rest of the market, but when you compare them to the rest of the T14 it makes these schools really stand out).
Smaller schools like Berkeley should do better but honestly, GULC did almost 10 percent worse than Berkeley, the next worst school. Not fair lumping GULC with the rest of the T14 when its more like the non T14s ranked below it

55.8% for fed clerk + 101+.
Thanks! If you don't mind, where did you get those numbers? I can't seem to find them anywhere.

What's the split? Was this Berk class uninterested in firm work?
I don't remember the exact numbers, but fewer people in the 2013 class participated in OCI than in the 2012 class.

The person who posted Berkeley runs LST. He's seriously a more reliable source than the school itself.

FYI, the poster who shared the numbers on here is part of Law School Transparency, which collects the school-reported ABA data. If you won't accept his word, there's not much we can do for you until Berkeley actually posts the data on their web site. Speaking of which, maybe Berkeley should hire one of its unemployed class of 2013 students as a web publisher--the law school evidently needs the labor.

As someone who has idolized Berk my whole (aware of higher ed) life, and who didn't get in last cycle, it makes me feel kinda great. Still, I assume that the class was less interested in firm work than last year's. Although, the fact that they chose to wait to disclose gives the impression that they feel hurt about it.

Thanks for the info. It's really appreciated. What's their underemployment score/stats?

Excellent... We can finally make a decent comparison of the T14 for the most recent cycle. (Btw, any idea on what is taking Berkeley so long to publically release this data? And are there no sanctions for completely blowing off the deadline like this?)

Overall, things seem to be looking pretty optimistic. :D

The school funded positions at Berkeley is a new thing for PI dedicated people. I think they had funding this year for up to 25 people to work with a 501c3 or a government office for a year. To get it you had to show that the position would be likely to lead to a full time position after the year of funding (show that the place had hired past fellows, regularly hires people with 1 year of experience).

As far as I know, everyone on it was hardcore dedicated to PI to begin with; I'm not aware of anyone on it who participated in OCI (then again, I don't know everyone in the class, so it's possible it's covering people who just struggled to get any kind of job).

Berkeley student here. I have to say, if those numbers are correct, they're surprising and a bit disappointing. I think it's a bit premature to say that Berkeley is all of a sudden lagging behind, however.

A few thoughts:

-This year's graduating class (2014) has secured 42 federal clerkships. That's a 75% increase over these numbers.
-The non-NLJ big law numbers are a surprising departure from last year: I believe last year's numbers had about 10% of the class in these jobs, and this year's apparently only have about 3%?
-The school-funded rate is something I had no idea about. It looks a lot like the UVA jobs, but I do think it's important to keep in mind that Berkeley attracts a lot of the PI-oriented type and has always had strong PI numbers (whereas UVA has gone from like 5% PI to 20% PI as a result of their school-funded jobs).
