Re: USNWR Rankings Released...Seriously
I'm not too surprised by the rankings - they're pretty much the same from year to year. If anything, the actual scores for each school are more telling than the rankings themselves. I mean, the T25 basically remained the same, but there is still an abyss of difference separating the T12 from schools even ranked at #28. NU and Duke both have scores of 82, while BC/UNC/etc have scores of 63. That 19 point score difference might not seem like a lot if you just look at the overall rankings, but that's the same difference between BC/UNC/etc and the schools with scores of 44 ranked at #86 (Hofstra/Syracuse/etc) - an overall difference of 58 places in the rankings! Pretty crazy when you think about it.

Considering they are very close to Emory (#22) in many aspects, why are they a t35 at best?

Credited. However, I think that SLU's 1L class size of 333 is a considerably disadvantage when it comes to placement.theantiscalia wrote:I feel terrible for SLU, though. They deserve to be a Tier 2... they have phenomenal St. Louis placement, the best health law program in the country, and fought WUSTL to the bitter end for jobs this year (their career services official is phenomenal).

Maybe next year we can keep the momentum from the last two cycles and jumpup 11 again!

UGA's peer/lawyer judge assessment scores are noticeably lower than other T35 schools.

Re: USNWR Rankings Released...Seriously
Actually as one poster already noted because it went up so rapidly in the rankings last year actually signifies volatility that it will stay there. The drop was more of a leveling out and imo the rank last year was inflated and this year it is more correct. Also the above poster is wrong, PSU offically changed its name to PSU law last year from Dickinson school of law. I too thought the name change along with the new building would help it in the rankings however I think we have already seen the extent of this help with its general move up the rankings from the few years it spent in the 90's. As another poster already explained, PSU fails to dominate a region in PA, the way Pitt does w/ Pittsburgh and Temple and Nova do in Philly. Ultimately this hurts the school. Also, the steady move upwards from Pitt seems to be a resotring of its old spot after a big -12 fall about 3 years ago. A similiar move occurred last year when case moved back into the 50's after (unjustly) spending time in the lower 60's. Interestingly enough, as far as PA I was much more surprised by Temple's drop than PSU's or Pitt's rise. It went from 2nd best in PA to 4th.jbarl1 wrote:Penn State rose a lot in the rankings last year, so I think it is a bit surprising that it dropped so much this year.underdawg wrote:who cares about a new building?jbarl1 wrote:Someone comment on Penn State please...
and it should keep going up because it has a good name? hasn't it always had the same name? why would that make a year to year difference, if it even mattered?

I thought C-K would climb this year. Hm.
There are some pretty drastic moves this year. I'm not sure what I think of all of this. Just when I thought I had USNWR figured out, they throw a curveball.

Re: USNWR Rankings Released...Seriously
I'm actually surprised that any school ever enters or leaves the top 100.
Think about it this way: there are many applicants across the U.S. that apply to schools that are not in their home state, simply because a particular school is ranked. However, once these schools drop to TTT status, many of these people will all of a sudden stop applying to these school, and the school will have to rely heavily on people within the state. Therefor, it seems like the schools in the top 100 have a huge advantage over the unranked schools, because they have access to a much more extensive application pool.

I think Berk is in a much more reasonable spot now. You cant have a 25th percentile LSAT of 165 and stay in the t6.

Re: USNWR Rankings Released...Seriously
Its hard to tell. Only 25% of their class stays in state, so that might account for the relatively weak bar passage rate, but the decline concerns me since they send a significant percentage of their class out of state. It seems to me that consistent declines in ranking could potentially hurt them more than truly regional schools that dominate a particular state.doomed123 wrote:It's not too surprising, actually - their placement and bar passage is pretty weak (bar passage rate is barely above the state average... not good). I don't know if it was always this way, but they really need to step it up.leraa6587 wrote:doomed123 wrote:It's amazing to think that W&L was the in T20 just a few years ago.acstas87 wrote:Washington Lee falls...again.
Out of the top 30 in fact. Their continual slide is somewhat worrying.
Just goes to show how volatile (and therefore meaningless) the rankings are from 20-ish to 30-ish.
This is another school that is seriously underrated and I don't understand why it's dropping. I can understand how it doesn't compare to the t20 anymore, but really, another dramatic fall? This is ridiculous for such a great school.
On the flip side, impressive to see UGA improving in the rough economy. They both cost the same for me so I guess I have all day tomorrow to figure it out.

This was a bad year for the state of Missouri - Mizzou dropped 27 spots and SLU dropped to Tier 3 status.

I just read that USD is #56...go figure. It belongs up there with the big boys anyways.
