By the way, I'm basically a very special snowflake in that my job is of that unicorn national-advocacy-org-that-does-impact-lit variety, with decent pay, substantive assignments, guaranteed set raises each year (plenty of PI has been freezing salaries since 2009), excellent benefits and dream work hours/work life balance. It should tell you something that my posts aren't all cheer and rainbows. And I even like law and really care about our cause.

Yeah, I don't think you'd be crazy about the pay, and it's not even particularly bad; perfectly fine for NYC PI. Gotta give them props though for fantastic benefits. My biglaw boyfriend has been able to put more money towards his loans thanks to the awesome healthcare/zero need for extended childcare that we enjoy thanks to my job.IAFG wrote:No matter how hard DD tries to convince us otherwise, I'd like to do her job. No, it was drafting a "report" based on FOIAed info we couldn't actually get.Desert Fox wrote:

I've been pretty spoiled, but if I had to identify a true drawback, having to live with the debt is definitely it. I stay up at night every so often stressing about what will happen if PSLF goes away.Desert Fox wrote:Can confirm that Dressy complains all the time about her unicorn job.dresden doll wrote:It's incomprehensible to me that a person's discomfort with debt somehow signals that they're just money hungry. And if you substitute fedgov for unicorn-national-advocacy-org-etc., so do I.worldtraveler wrote:As a fellow special snowflake, I concur.dresden doll wrote:It's incomprehensible to me that a person's discomfort with debt somehow signals that they're just money hungry. If nothing else, this thread has completely changed my perception of the type of people who can get in to Harvard.

TLSers have always been super impresesed by it but it's really just people with 1-2 LSAT points more than CCN. Which means exactly dick all.beachbum wrote:If nothing else, this thread has completely changed my perception of the type of people who can get in to Harvard.

Or not even. Some people here with equal stats to mine have gotten in. I'm honestly not envious at all; I'm perfectly happy with my circumstances and happy for them. But honestly, it's not that impressive.Desert Fox wrote:TLSers have always been super impresesed by it but it's really just people with 1-2 LSAT points more than CCN. Isn't HLS like 1000 people a year?

I was pretty underwhelmed at their ASW. A fairly large percentage of awkward kids. Lotsa kids with their parents. Actually a disturbingly large number of kids with their parents. Which isn't to say that UChi, for instance, was any better on the weirdness factor. But I definitely didn't come away with any zomgharvardsoimpressive feeling.beachbum wrote:If nothing else, this thread has completely changed my perception of the type of people who can get in to Harvard.

It's not like H is anything actually impressive like Y or S.

I really wish that I could have gone to Stanford's. Since they DGAF so much about scores, I feel like they just get to pick whoever they feel like the most interesting people overall are.IAFG wrote:It's not like H is anything actually impressive like Y or S.

I'm not sure any adcom can accurately judge prestige since they are perse losers.

Yeah, YS may be impressive because it's not like you just need the numbers, but plenty of people at CCN could've done HLS. And even more can now when competitiveness seems to be down all around.

If I had the stats for Yale, it would mean either a Hamilton at CLS or Ruby at Chicago. No way in hell would I be able to turn down either. Making 160K and actually be able to put all of the net in the bank account would be fucking sweet.dresden doll wrote:I'll be honest: as a 0L, I'd probs have gone to YS no matter what.

I'm not actually sure it works out that cleanly. You'd be surprised at how many people I knew who didn't get more money from CCN than they were looking at for HYS. Makes the decision super easy, of course.Theopliske8711 wrote:If I had the stats for Yale, it would mean either a Hamilton at CLS or Ruby at Chicago. I guess the CCN full ride would've been the only thing that could have induced me to turn down YS.

Honestly, I think much of my irritation towards sticker-paying yhs prestige whores is due to the fact that because of them, yhs will never have to lower themselves to negotiating, and so I would never be able to justify myself actually going there.

I'd definitely pay a premium to get to drop the H bomb or take a stroll in palo alto. But not that crazy shit they're demanding.patogordo wrote:i mean i'm a prestige whore but at least i'm self-aware. it's the transparent euphemisms that are obnoxious.
