Pros:
1. The people at the top do really well as far as job placement
2. Nashville is a ridiculously cool place top spend three years
3. Punches above its weight for clerkship hiring
4. The professors are really nice
5. The student body as a whole is pretty chill
Cons:
1. Job placement is not on par with the T13
2. Graded LRW is the worst
3. We get a lot fewer NYC firms at OCI
4. You'll have a tough time staying in Nashville after graduation if you're not from TN (speaking from experience)
5. Graded LRW is the fucking worst
If you want a change lets make it T10,T15, or T20 that would make more sense.

Pros
1. Amazing job placement
2. More journals/clinics/SPOs/student orgs/speaker events than you would ever need
3. Large size means you'll probably find a pretty sizable group of people that you can relate to
4. H/P system where a large portion of the class looks like they're median or above
5. Awesome facilities and professors
Cons
1. Weather. Very humid when it's hot and the winter is pretty brutal. Not much in between
2. Cambridge is very expensive for what it is
3. Expensive if you don't get financial aid grants and grants are recalculated from year to year so you don't know your total COA going in
4. 4 doctrinal classes + LRW in the first semester
5. Lunch meetings run out of food/free coffee until 10 runs out well before 10/I get way less free booze than ASW insinuated
Overall it's great.

Dude. No. Don't derail this thread over something that's been discussed thousands of times on here.shawmaster wrote:How about the 10 law schools that had noticeably better job outcomes than all the others!
This is not some arbitrary T10/T15/T20 bullshit. There are 13 schools with relatively comparable placement statistics into elite jobs, and there are four schools that solidly place into those elite categories that are clearly above the remaining schools in the nation but clearly do not compare to those 13 (GTown/UT/Vandy/UCLA). The term T14 is relevant as those 14 schools have never not been ranked outside the top 14, and no other school (but Texas) has ever been included in the top 14.
In short, when talking about prefstige and character of schools T14 might be proper, when talking about placement T13 might be proper. No other distinction on this particular point is relevant.

Ok so to summarize my responses to this thread:
- Pretending the T13 doesn't exist is as silly as pretending the T10 does
- If you don't name your school ITT I am upset at you for wasting internets
- Graded LRW is the fucking worst and you are an insane person if you don't agree
- Just fucking lol @ claiming your school is cheap if you get a full ride
- Vinegar based BBQ sauce is delicious

Re: 5 PROS + 5 CONS of YOUR LAW SCHOOL
Stanford Law School
Pros:
1. Small class size = wildly accessible faculty, less competition for opportunities (eg law review)
2. Weather/location -- Palo Alto is paradise
3. Incredible residence halls
4. Grading system (pass / honors)
5. Progressive political atmosphere
Cons:
1. Culture of entitlement
2. Small class size = less people, smaller communities, less going on
3. Less journals/clinics than some other schools (related to 2)
4. Difficult to distinguish yourself (also related to 2)
5. Some people get spastic about classes despite chill grading system and basically guaranteed employment

3. CHEAP - cost of attendence is only 50k unlike those pretentious "big name" schools like Columbia (85k cost of attendence)
4. free application - why waste money on schools you wont get into anyway
5. Job placement - no reportable employment data yet, but its a buyers market so I'm sure there will be no problem landing jobs
Cons:

Re: 5 PROS + 5 CONS of YOUR LAW SCHOOL
University of South Carolina
Pros:
1. Students are nice and not gunnerish. We help each other out.
2. Reasonably cheap (for a law school) tuition and no stips on scholarships.
3. Lizard's Thicket. If you've lived here, you'll understand.
4. Very very well connected with local legal community. Some of professors literally write the codes, and we have many judges and experienced lawyers teaching on staff.
5. Very low cost of living.
Cons:
1. Biglaw is a joke. No one gets it except for maybe 10 people out of a class of 200. Big-fed is nonexistent. Federal Clerkships are rare. Federal CoA is nonexistent. Seriously, we have a 4th Cir. judge who comes down here and tells us about how he's not going to hire any one of us even though he graduated from here. It's funny. We monopolize state clerkships though.
2. Nontraditional methods of getting jobs. Most of it is networking rather than grades.
3. School is in Columbia, South Carolina. If you've lived here, you'll understand.
4. Insular legal community. You compete with the sons and daughters of politicians for some positions. Guess who wins.
5. We poor.

These two are objectively wrong. Carolina BBQ is the best, and college sports are a fucking drain on the system.beachbum wrote:Duke
I could discuss job placement or clinics or professors or student body, but I suspect Duke is fairly interchangeable with most of the rest of the T14 in these categories. So here's an attempt at being relatively Duke-specific:
Pro:
2) Basketball (and now football, too, kinda). I could write about the benefits of strong revenue sports in terms of campus environment, alumni network, and general quality of life, but we'd be here all day.
Con:
3) BBQ. Jesus, it's like they're intentionally screwing up a good thing. Good bbq sauce is not nor should ever be vinegar-based. Ever. Jesus. (But see hushpuppies, sweet tea).

Texas:
Pros:
1. Austin is awesome
2. Best school in a large region and 2 large-ish markets
3. Pretty decent BL + Fed Clerk
4. BBQ and Texmex
5. Somewhat separate from main campus, but not fully isolated
Cons:
1. The school is ugly AF
2. You're much more likely to not get BL + Fed than to actually get it
3. Very insular market, so OOSers can have a hard/rough time
4. Not directly in a huge market, so networking may not be as effective
