I mean, since in several of the past years chicago and uva have had a higher clerkship % than hls, I'm not sure it's that simple. Yale and Stanford, certainly.star fox wrote:Clerkships outside of Yale, Harvard, and Stanford are going to be such a small % of the class generally, and only really going to be in play for a small % of the class to begin with that it's an area where whoever at the school is running Clerkships are a particular time and without a doubt, self-interest, are really going to make a major difference year to year. At the end of the day, we're talking about the difference between 19 people having a Federal Clerkship and 7 people having one. When the class size is under 200 that's a big swing in percentages, but probably not super indicative of one's ability to obtain a clerkship out of Cornell.

Yep, realized that a bit later.jbagelboy wrote:Hes completely trolling you bro
But given that this is in choosing a law school, and the 0Ls usually can't tell the difference and always read too much into these numbers, I figure I may as well leave it there for context.

Is that the 3 percentages averaged together or adding up the 3 numerators and denominators together and dividing those numbers (since class sizes change year to year)? Pedantic I know.

I hope everyone realizes that all of this year-to-year variation is mostly noise, and that adding BL +FC gives you an incomplete (and in some cases misleading) picture of the placement power of a law school.Lavitz wrote:Yep, realized that a bit later.jbagelboy wrote:Hes completely trolling you bro

Except, that is, in the case of Penn. Its decline this year portends an ominous future for graduates of that bottom-tier Ivy. But for all the other law schools, you should take these year-to-year variations with a grain of salt.

It's actually 34.6% for BU (big law + fed clerk)Dr. Nefario wrote:BU Law is 39% biglaw(100+)+clerkship
This is roughly the same as 2014, but 2013 was 29%.
at least according to this

ETA: corrected and this is all ten months after grad

ran the numbers again (48+7+15+11)/208 and got 37.5%, maybe I'm just bad at mathTirantMartorell wrote:It's actually 34.6% for BU (big law + fed clerk)Dr. Nefario wrote:BU Law is 39% biglaw(100+)+clerkship

That's because you're adding both state and federal clerks - there are only 2 fed clerks from BU, the other 9 are state clerks - those don't count for purposes of the numbers people are computing on this thread.Dr. Nefario wrote:ran the numbers again (48+7+15+11)/208 and got 37.5%, maybe I'm just bad at mathTirantMartorell wrote:It's actually 34.6% for BU (big law + fed clerk)Dr. Nefario wrote:BU Law is 39% biglaw(100+)+clerkship

I'm taking nominations for a blue ribbon panel I will be appointing to determine the correct biglaw + fed clerk number for Boston University.

Excuse my ignorance, but are the new USNEWS rankings based on these numbers or last years?

lol only employment #s only make up 20% of USNEWS' rankings methodology. I don't think it matters which employments #s theyre relying on. It's all about dat library size anywaySirArthurDayne wrote:Excuse my ignorance, but are the new USNEWS rankings based on these numbers or last years?
