Interview doesn't mean acceptance.

Ps Carl Sagan went to UChicago and so did justice Stevens- I bet your folks haven't heard of them either
No shit, we're Canadians.

Sorry to hear that Canadians don't have astrophysics
I meant for Stevens. As for Sagan...eh.
Stevens went to law school at NU. I don't think a Chicago Law grad has ever made it to SCOTUS. Maybe the OP's parents are onto something.

They've never had a POTUS either, geez. Not even in the running with YLS/HLS/CLS. Even Duke got one.

Just found this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_l ... t_Justices

Albany Law School, Cincinnati Law School, Cumberland School of Law, and Indiana have a combined eight Supreme Court justices. University of Chicago Law School? Zero. LOL. Chicago Law is more TTT than I realized.

Chicago has little to no lay prestige, but it's still a great law school.

TBF, where I grew up (West Coast, USA), nobody thought Cornell was that great either. People regularly go to USC/UCLA over Cornell without a second thought.....I don't really get the Ivy obsession some East Coasters (or Canadians) have.

So, OP, if you want to please us West Coasters don't go to Cornell either - nobody will care. The only school worth going to (for ultimate lay prestige) is Harvard. If you can't get into Harvard (mayyybe Yale/Stanford), then don't go to law school.

Damn, my parents would probably jump in joy if I get accepted to Chicago.

I hear if you finish bottom 10 % at Syracuse, you are a strong contender for Vice President.

LOL. You are saying this because your parents aren't like this, and you are trying to validate your own opinion. You have absolutely no idea what a "representative" Asian parent think. I don't either. But that's beside the point, I have no idea why you decide to take this thread in this direction.

My parents are not strange, you could say they are relatively uninformed about law school and the legal profession.

Rather than calling my parents "strange" and unrepresentative, show some humanity and try to help me out. If not, that's fine. I can call your parents abnormal and weird without actually getting to know them - well that would be a little unfair, wouldn't it?
You really shouldn't be frustrated with that response. You had no reason to attach an ethnicity to your parents in your post, and the fact that you did makes it somewhat reasonable for people to assume that you are implying that being Asian has something to do with your parents' views towards law schools and the prestige of Chicago.

I don't understand the problem. Don't go to Chicago if you don't want to. There are other good schools.

OP I'm sorry you have to deal with this. I acknowledge I come from a very different cultural background but it seems to me like a parent should put what's best for their child before what benefits their social circle prestige. I get wanting your kid to do well and pushing them to excel, I'm not saying parents should be of the totally do whatever makes you happy variety, but you should push them for their own long term benefit, not to score points with your friends, that's incredibly selfish.

I'm not sure what magic pill you thought the good people at TLS could give you if your parents refuse to be reasonable. Since that's the case, you really only have three choices, assuming you get in to UChicago:
  • Attend Chicago and fund yourself (like quite a few people do - not only the "privileged", as you describe them, attend expensive law schools),
  • Do whatever your parents say, or
  • Trick them.
I'd opt for the last one.
