Re: 2015 seat deposit deadlines
I also called to get an extension of the deadline (tomorrow). I was told specifically they only extend for one week. Better than nothing, I guess.

Re: 2015 seat deposit deadlines
This is probably a stupid question, but if you don't deposit do you automatically lose your seat? Or does it depend... waiting on a negotiation from a school, but not sure if I want to double deposit.

Re: 2015 seat deposit deadlines
It depends on the school. I missed one school's seat deposit deadline, and I got my scholarship bumped to full ride. Although I don't know much about your situation, it's probably a good idea to double deposit at that school. A ridiculous amount. GULC is crazy.confused_humpback wrote:$2,500 total deposit? That's intense.Gray wrote:GULC - regular first deposit is May 1 ($1,000), second deposit (or deposit waiver commitment form) is June 1 ($1,500)

How close to the deposit deadline should you ask for an extension? Thanks

What happens if you get admitted after a seat deposit deadline? Do you still have to pay it?

Yes, the school should give you a new deadline on your acceptance letter.adil91 wrote:What happens if you get admitted after a seat deposit deadline? Do you still have to pay it?

When you ask for deposit deadline extension, do you email Dean of Admission or Financial Aid Director? Also, do you need to give a reason for requesting an extension? I am waiting for the scholarship decision from my top choice school.
Thank you

Well yeah, but whatever happened to the whole "no excessive nonrefundable deposit to provide uncoerced choice" thing? $2500 is like my net worth. If they hadn't randomly waived that I'd have felt pretty coerced.Gray wrote:If you are done negotiating and are ready to commit they do waive the whole thing.Pragmatic Gun wrote:A ridiculous amount. Re: 2015 seat deposit deadlines
Well I got one of those scholarships that waived the fee. But I didn't know that was a thing until I got it. If not for that… no way I could keep Georgetown on the list. (This seems like it would work against their own interests. I guess the huge fee could force people to lock in via the binding deposit waiver, but the flip side of that is that people who were on the fence or riding wait lists will pull out unless they've got a lottttt of dough to throw around.)Gray wrote:Well it's not really random, I meant that there's the option to waive it if you agree to attend (signing that binding form). I mean if one was negotiating well into may, one would have to pay at least the May 1st deposit, which, yeah, is still really too much money.usn26 wrote:Well yeah, but whatever happened to the whole "no excessive nonrefundable deposit to provide uncoerced choice" thing? $2500 is like my net worth. anyone have dates for schools' second seat deposits? Question, (and yes I know it's amateurish) I know in most cases the first seat deposit isn't binding but is the second?

Re: 2015 seat deposit deadlines
My understanding is the deposits alone are never binding, you will just end up losing more money if you don't matriculateBillClinton Jr wrote:anyone have dates for schools' second seat deposits? Dates are in OP. In some, but not all cases, the 2nd deposit is binding.BillClinton Jr wrote:anyone have dates for schools' second seat deposits? Question, (and yes I know it's amateurish) I know in most cases the first seat deposit isn't binding but is the second?
