The point about whether it's worth paying anything north of 200k for law school at all is a separate one. My point is I'd rather pay 275k for the biglaw job I want vs. 225k for a biglaw job in NYC. (I'm not referring to a T-14 full ride, just the CCN w/ 50-80k thing)californiauser wrote:Yeah, true, but when you break it down you're paying 275k+ (now) for the privilege of working for someone else...it just really doesn't make any logical or financial senseDrStudMuffin wrote:By that I just meant biglaw in NYC/Chicago. The sense I've gotten is that HYS are distinctly better than CCN in the vast majority of secondary/tertiary markets.rayiner wrote:I understand people may have different goals, but the fact of the matter is that most grads, at least at H, end up in generic big law. If you want NYC big law, and don't get WLRK, you're pretty much in the same boat as a CCN grad at Cleary Swaine & Bartlett.DrStudMuffin wrote:
Yeah, this. And unless your goals are just generic NYC/Chicago (for U of C) biglaw, HYS are generally worth more than that amount, in my opinion. Full ride to a lower T-14 is murkier, and at that point things really depend on the individual and their goals.

Not True, for the best case scenario (aka Stanford), only 65% of the students are receiving some sort of a grant. For Yale and Harvard, the percentage is between mid 40s to mid 50s, with H on the lower end. Then again, as far as scholarship goes, more students in most T14 pay sticker than at HYS, at least paying sticker in HYS is better than paying sticker in Gtown, but somehow a higher percentage of your georgetown class choose to attend without any $.NYSprague wrote:Apparently HYS at sticker is a flame and only the handful of rich kids whose parents won't help them are the ones paying it. So don't worry about it I guess.

Reading posts on this forum seldom cause me to experience any kind of intense emotion, but somehow, OP's posts have made me frustrated to the point of anger. To basically just reiterate a response that was made earlier:
Some people who have an IQ of 85 can end up becoming multimillionaires, while many people who have an IQ of 160 can end up making 40k a year. I'd rather be born someone who has an IQ of 85, and gets 5 dollars a year as a gift from his grandparents, than be someone born with an IQ of 160, whose grandparents do not give him any money. After all, the person with an IQ of 85 can end up being more successful than the smarter person anyway, plus he would have received all of that money from his grandparents. It can be bad to have an IQ of 160.

Agreed. My mistake.
