Re: UT ($$$) vs. WUSTL (Full Ride)
UT would scare me as the Governor is trying to completely link salary of professors to number of students taught. He believes that professors should not research, but just teach. If this is implemented UT will quickly become TTT. Going to a state school subjects you to the buffoonery of clown politicians. WUSTL is insulated from these whims. Go with the stability. Go with WUSTL.

I don't know man, I'd pick a school here based off of job outcomes, not on something that probably won't come true.jdmonkey wrote:UT would scare me as the Governor is trying to completely link salary of professors to number of students taught. This is pretty clear cut I think, especially because you want TX. The schools are peer-ish but UT does objectively seem like a cut above in pretty much every way, unless you wanted the Midwest. WUSTL is a good school but if you prefer TX then hands down go to UT.

I guess it all worked out for the better man, especially since I want to stay in the South. Best of luck at WUSTL man, pretty unbelievable looking back a year ago at our late night group chats and thinking that we would get these offers from these schools!

First- Shifty_eyed...don't pretend you're a disinterested party here.Dolphine wrote:This is obvious. Law school is about 2 things, having friends and no debt. You'll get that both at wustl.
You'll have no problem getting back to Texas from WUSTL as MANY others have done (according to romo), but good luck getting outside of Texas with UT.
Come....come to the magical land where law school tuition is a myth told by the elder 2Ls
Dolphine--This is terrible advice. It's actually the opposite. I worked at top firms on both Coasts (and abroad) and have run into scores of UT grads, but relatively few WUSTL grads. In fact, I was just on the phone with an AGC of one of my clients, chatting about law school last week. He was a WUSTL alum. And he told me that there would have been almost no way for him to get out of the MidWest had he not accepted a federal clerkship post-WUSTL, which then led to his firm job in CA. Anecdata? Sure. But he told me that my gut about getting to CA from WUSTL being very, very rare indeed was correct. He's been out for nearly 15 years, but told me I had made the right decision as WUSTL was not very portable. Texas, on the other hand, is VERY portable. It just is. I believe OP could get to Texas from WUSTL. But he or she could get to many more markets from UT.
/TRUTH
Last--while I absolutely agree that debt minimization is a key component of law school, 51K in debt is not that much, given the fact that you're young. The delta here is 30K, which over 20 years is like $325/month. Hardly going to bankrupt you. I would go where you and SO are most happy, where family is, where job prospects would be best. Both of these are great options overall, at the prices you're proposing to be paying.
Good luck, WokeUp.

Calling a Texas degree "VERY portable" feels like a flame. Also, pretty sure Dolphine was joking.RedGiant wrote:First- Shifty_eyed...don't pretend you're a disinterested party here.Dolphine wrote:This is obvious. Chose UT. I love WUSTL, so it was very tough to turn down a full ride, but that price for Texas when I probably want to end up there was just too attractive.

I predict it will be just as hopping as the ASW one. :pBigZuck wrote:And with that, an entire thread suffers not one but two broken hearts.WokeUpInACar wrote:Chose UT. Great choice! UT was definitely the smarter decision for you at that price.WokeUpInACar wrote:Chose UT. I love WUSTL, so it was very tough to turn down a full ride, but that price for Texas when I probably want to end up there was just too attractive.

Texas. Texas was TCR.
You *probably* want to stay in Texas, Texas has a 7-10% higher big firm / clerkship rate, and $51K is very manageable.
