Truth. I personally like both schools (Hoosier, IU UG) but the fact that these schools are both 23rd is laughable. Kinda shows how useless the rankings are when you are looking at schools close to each other.introversional wrote:Under: ND

Agree. Indiana is definitely crashing when the money dries up. I's also add Northwestern to the overrated list, I think they'll lose a rank within the next 2 years.TaipeiMort wrote:Underrated: byu, Notre Dame, Texas.

Why do you say this about NU? I ask because I'm curious but also because there is a healthy contingent of NU students on here. I can imagine a few will have a problem with this claim if left unsubstantiated.super6 wrote:Agree. Indiana is definitely crashing when the money dries up. I think the NU early admission program hurts their numbers. Combine that with the cost of attendance and the fact that Cornell out-employs them and I think we'll see Cornell overtake NU within 2 years.Mal Reynolds wrote:Why do you say this about NU? Lots of assumptions and baseless conjecture here (but hey, its TLS). Are you basing this off the NLJ numbers? You do realize that NU was number one on that list two years ago?super6 wrote:I think the NU early admission program hurts their numbers. The NLJ list is great, but it is not infallible. There are factors unaccounted for and some natural variations (and Chicago sucks right now, so that's big too).
Drawing conclusions about the trajectory of a school or predicting the future rankings is often a fruitless endeavor, especially when you are using tiny snapshots in time to do it.

Re: Any Law Schools UNDER/OVERrated???
I've thought about this a lot, as right now I'm weighing T14s vs my in state flagship school (UNC), but it seems there's so little data on employment prospects at most good local flagship schools. UNC has an amazing reputation here, but there's hardly any data on where their graduates go (based off of LST at least), and it seems like that's the case for a lot of other in flagship in state schools. True, I could graduate with less than 100k debt, but I really don't know what post grad employment looks like, and at least with a T14, I feel like I know what I'm getting into. Any thoughts?AreJay711 wrote:I know the conversation has moved away from this but going by the school that sends most people to biglaw is probably a bad idea. Going to your state flagship with in-state tuition is probably better than anything butthe top 14top 6HYS. Biglaw probably isn't what you really want to do -- except for the necessity of paying off 200K in loans part and in some instances the schools aren't any better in reputation, networking, or overall employment but are just in a part of the country with more large firms around.

Re: Any Law Schools UNDER/OVERrated???
It seems to me that unless you're interested in working in an extremely competitive market (i.e. NYC, Boston, etc...), or unless your instate flagship happens to be in the middle of a T14 market, you should seriously consider following the $$. I feel like UNC is a tough call, because I would be concerned about having to compete with Duke and Wake Forest grads for jobs, but then again I'm not familiar with the NC job market.westinghouse60 wrote:I've thought about this a lot, as right now I'm weighing T14s vs my in state flagship school (UNC), but it seems there's so little data on employment prospects at most good local flagship schools. If you're in at a T14 then UNC shouldn't just be less than 100k, it should be free. What are your numbers?westinghouse60 wrote:I've thought about this a lot, as right now I'm weighing T14s vs my in state flagship school (UNC), but it seems there's so little data on employment prospects at most good local flagship schools. I would say the exact opposite, these schools are underrated.WSJ_Law wrote:GWU Fordham Emory are overrattted

Re: Any Law Schools UNDER/OVERrated???
I get the impression that all of those underrated schools have strong alumni networks. I'd add Boston College.super6 wrote:TaipeiMort wrote:Underrated: byu, Notre Dame, Texas.

Couldn't speak to the overrated schools except Emory, and Emory gets the shit kicked out of it on this board.
@Jackson117: Not at all. Unless maybe you're weighing GWU v. BU and you're an IP guy (GWU has a really strong IP program). It's only relevant when it's a close call like that. Do not take GWU over GULC because you're an IP guy for example.
