Im surprised there was anyone else at all at Berkley's gym. I had a buddy who played football there and hated it because of all the hippies' attitudes toward athletics.

Maybe the hippies would care more about athletics if your buddy and his teammates could stop whining about how people don't love him enough and win more than 5 games in a mediocre conference. What an entitled douche.

Good to know the 50,000 paying fans packing the stadium every home game aren't enough adulation for his arrogant ass.

First of all, this guy was, statistically speaking, one of the best in the history of his position in the NCAA. Second, this was several years ago. Cal was consistently a top25 contender at that time. Third, I did not assign this negative attitude, nor the label 'hippies' to the entire student body, I didn't even say it was the majority of the student body. Is it not possible for a vocal minority to have a significant impact on the experiennce? And do you really think the haters that I'm referring to would even know the team's record? Finally, the attendance at the game is in no way a reflection of the students' attitude toward the players. They let non-students buy tickets.

I have a hard time believing there was a "vocal minority" of people who didn't care about football, mainly because people who don't care about things tend by definition not to be very vocal. I also attended UC Berkeley for 4 years, and I remember huge bbqs and game day parties, but I certainly don't remember any vocal minorities who gave a shit about football. There were about 12 Berkeley townies who camped out in some trees once because they didn't want a practice facility to be built on that spot, but those weren't even Berkeley students.

I'm a former football player and huge football fan, but I think the idea that these guys deserve more respect than they're getting is absurd. For one thing, they're already getting a free degree from an elite university where the bulk of them *barely* scrape by a selection of the world's easiest classes. Cal students by and large love Cal athletics, but the idea that your friend would be bothered that some of them don't is weird. I loved when people showed up to my games, but I'd never get butthurt that some people weren't interested.

Mizzou's gym is phenomenal: Olympic-sized pools, lazy river, massive weight rooms with the best equipment, tons of basketball and racquetball courts, and just about anything you could ever want or need to meet your fitness and nutrition goals.

I second this. I'm at Mizzou for undergrad and the rec center still blows me away -- they're constantly adding new equipment all the time.

Word. The fitness center is JUST for the law school. Good weight room (though it could use another power cage or squat rack), tons of cardio equipment, each with a TV. Full indoor basketball court, couple of racquetball courts, indoor swimming pool, and yoga/boxing/etc. classes offered throughout the year.

Also, the fitness center building is connected to the law school residence hall. That's a huge benefit when it's cold out.

UVA has four gyms: Aquatic and Fitness Center (AFC), Slaughter, Memorial and North Grounds. They all have basketball courts and are all really nice since they're relatively new or have undergone renovations - except for Memorial gym, which is the oldest. If you're looking for something in particular, chances are at least one of the gyms has it.

North Grounds is the closest and most convenient to the law school and was renovated recently (http://www.virginia.edu/ims/facilities/ngrc.php). For the most part it's just used by law and business school students, but some undergrads will drive there to avoid crowds at other gyms - at least that's what I always did. AFC is the largest, has a swimming pool, three basketball courts and tons of machines.

I just read on NU's site that their non-school related gym is managed by Bally and your membership gets you access to all other Ballys. Also spouses/family get discounted access.

I don't think NYU's gyms are bad. I guess the weightroom is kind of small, but its got everything covered and its not that crowded if you go at the right times. Its certainly a level above WUSTL's.

We love our hippie neighbors on Telegraph Ave and People's Park, but Cal students are not hippies (liberal and nerdy, maybe). This is not 1970's.

Also, we may not idolize our football players like the students at SEC schools, but we are passionate about our athletic teams,too.

How many schools have students rushing the field and starting a riot when their team finishes 3-8?

I almost attended Mizzou for undergrad based solely on their rec-plex. Seriously.

SLU's gym is decent given the relatively small student population. It does the job, but it won't "wow" you like Mizzou's will.

This. Fantastic facilities, and although overall Mizzou campus may not have the best looking girls in the country, the rec center is teeming with them.

Not a fan of the Coles Center, but the Palladium looks nice. Do law school students use it or is it close to the law school? with more info, maybe Ill move NYU to the good side...

I've found that the majority of people I've talked to about it use the business school gym and stay away from the general ones open to the entire university. They're just overcrowded more than anything, really. You don't get that problem with the b-school one.

They don't use any of those. It's private (and kinda small, but when all you have are b-school and LS students using it, you really never have to wait for anything).

Well, but you got to pay like $240 a year for the b-school gym. I for one don't mind using the other gyms so I can stare on the undergrad girls. But that's just me. Sketchy, sketchy me.

The law school is pretty much equidistant from the CCRB and the IMSB, but I'd suggest you go to the IMSB if you're concerned about overcrowding since it's essentially on the fringe of South Campus. And more importantly... free.

I never had a problem using the IMSB building. The CCRB, however, does feel like an overcrowded refugee camp sometimes. The b-school gym is pretty damn nice, and also by far the closest given it's kitty-corner from the law school. I just couldn't get over paying for something I could get for free.

The NCRB is on North Campus. It's the least crowded of the university gyms, but its also the most remote. You'd have to drive or take the bus. AA is a walking town, so that'd be a little annoying.

Yeah, Coles is pretty old school, but Palladium is very nice. Its about a 15 minute walk from the law school. Rock-climbing wall, olympic pool, diving, basketball court, spin room, small but adequate weight room. I wouldn't say that Palladium is a fantastic gym, but neither is it "bad." You won't feel like you need to join a gym if you live near campus, I'll put it that way.

The IM building at Michigan is very close to the law quad and, in my opinion, has some really nice facilities. A pool, lots of raquetball, big weight rooms, a rock wall, many bball courts...

Ohio State's RPAC is the nicest facility I've ever been in. I'm a little biased because I went there for undergrad, but they have damn near everything--olympic swimming pool, kid's pool, free daycare center, game room, 12 basketball courts, indoor driving range, 12 racquetball courts, 4 squash courts, probably 150+ cardio machines (and I'm not exaggerating), two free weight areas, cable machines area, 1/8 mile track, and more that I'm forgetting.

The RPAC is probably a 12 minute walk from the law school. There is a smaller satellite rec center (1 of 4 satellite recs) probably 2 minutes from the law school. More serious lifters go there and it's generally less crowded.
