For a friend who wants NYC BigLaw:
Vandy - $10K/year
Fordham - not sure about $$ (not huge $$ though; may even be equal or less than Vandy)
UCLA - sticker

The trouble is, really, getting a job in the first place. While these jobs exist, they are scarce and are extremely difficult to get in this economy without some stellar networking.vendetta2 wrote:really? the grads i've talked to from CU didn't graduate in the top 25percent but still got jobs offering 65k, 75k, and 80k first year out. granted, they all went into private firms. is the average really as low as 50k if you go into private practice?mistergoft wrote:Colorado

1. Which school has better career prospects?
None of these schools have particularly great job prospects; most will probably get you a decent job making ~50-60k per year.
.
I don't know what the average is, but I certainly wouldn't anticipate going into any of those schools that I was pretty certain that I was going to by making 75k a year on graduation.

Quickest roi is P. CN safer for actually getting a job. Of those 3 I'd do NYU for NYC.trc332 wrote:Penn 150k

Excellent work experience will definitely weigh in your favor, if you do moderately well at NYU you'll likely get bites from all over the NYC V100.Nightrunner wrote:If definitely NYC, take NYU.trc332 wrote:Penn 150k

Same here. I originally wrote that I'd take Chicago.Nightrunner wrote:agreed on all counts.NayBoer wrote:Quickest roi is P. CN safer for actually getting a job. Of those 3 I'd do NYU for NYC.
FTR: if you - or someone with similar a situation - didn't care where you'd work, I'd take Chicago.
I edited when I realized he wanted NYC. I don't want NYC and am looking at all markets that aren't NYC or the South.

Because by all accounts Chicago has more national reach and even Michigan might place better in Calif. than NYU. Re: BP decides where you go to law school
I ran the NALP employer search for firms in CA doing OCI at NYU. 101 results.
And if you do the NALP school profile, NYU sends 70% to Middle Atlantic (NYC) but still 10% to Pacific (LA/SF), as the second most common region, ahead of South Atlantic (DC) at 8.4%.

fordham - $45K
bu - $60K
cornell - sticker
*$ = total scholarship
goals:
- practice in or near any of the following cities: ny, boston, dc, philadelphia, chicago
- possible biglaw (not a necessity, keeping options open)
- possibly interested in health law (from private industry or gov't perspective)
considerations:
- did undergrad at cornell
- currently working in nyc

I don't think the BU scholarship is large enough to justify forgoing Cornell, bro.Nightrunner wrote:BUbigdipper wrote:fordham - $45K

The BU campus sucks, I hate it. 3 More years at Cornell.

I am way too lazy to substantiate my unfounded recommendations based off of sheer speculation and assumption on any sort of logic or statistical evidence, so, take it for what it's worth.crackberry wrote:Because by all accounts Chicago has more national reach and even Michigan might place better in Calif. than NYU. Re: BP decides where you go to law school
My new default position someone calls into question taking out more debt in order to attend a school with better job prospects is to link them to this: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 1&t=114181Nightrunner wrote:I would agree, but if there is interest in Health Law and interest in practicing in Boston, BU with a scholarship is a pretty good deal. This takes into account the ridiculous sum of debt that is Cornell at sticker, and the fact that the asker is not 100% set on BigLaw.mistergoft wrote:I don't think the BU scholarship is large enough to justify forgoing Cornell, bro.Nightrunner wrote:BUbigdipper wrote:fordham - $45K

Also, cornell for 200k > BU for 140k, imho and forever.
