all three are sticker. i want to get the best grades possible. i want money, but don't care about prestige (if that was the case i'd be SOL with these three options)

GMU or U of C could both possibly lead to employment but since DC is such a saturated market i would go to Colorado and hope you manage to be a big fish in a small pond.vendetta2 wrote:University of Colorado

otoh if money is #1 taking on debt for any of these schools is probably counter-productive.

All three sticker. Money is only a minor issue for paying for law school. I have lived in all of these places and loved them all, so I wouldn't mind settling down in north carolina, dc / va area, or colorado (denver or boulder). As far as career goals, I am interested in a few different diverse areas of law, such as environmental, corporate, family, health. I realize that half of law students who go into law school change what they want to practice anyway. Either way, I want to go to the best school possible with the highest employment prospects / highest salary / low cost of living. I like the southern feel of Wake Forest / NC in general, but I also like the West-coast mentality of Colorado/ Boulder. Skiing is a plus, too.
I guess i want my decision to be based on:
1. Which school has better career prospects?
2. Which school has more mobility?
3. Which school is more fun?
4. Which school is harder to get good grades / be at the top of the class?

Tulane - $45K
Pepperdine - $60K
ASU - $25K + In-State
($s are scholarships over 3 years)
Im not sure what field I want to work in but Tulane's International and sports law programs interest me. I could easily see myself living in any of these three places in the future.

1. Which school has better career prospects?
None of these schools have particularly great job prospects; most will probably get you a decent job making ~50-60k per year.
2. Which school has more mobility?
Pick the school that is in a region you want to live; none of these schools promise great mobility whatsoever. If you want mobility I suggest you retake the lsat and reapply.
3. Which school is more fun?
Lolwtf? Can't evaluate without having attended, you might want to talk with some current students, there might be a "taking Qs" thread with some 1Ls around here somewhere
4. Which school is harder to get good grades / be at the top of the class?
Impossible to discern, this is reliant on far too many variables and likely varies from class to class due to the nature of law school grading (you're ranked against your peers on a mandatory curve). Please don't go to law school believing that you can finish at the top of your class as this is delusional and law school grading it highly arbitrary. All of these schools likely offer equal difficulty in terms of one's ability to perform exceptionally well.

Please save yourself some money and go to ASU. Tulane having an international and/or sports law program that it uses to attract students with is ridiculous.csgrant5 wrote:Tulane - $45K

really? the grads i've talked to from CU didn't graduate in the top 25percent but still got jobs offering 65k, 75k, and 80k first year out. granted, they all went into private firms. is the average really as low as 50k if you go into private practice?mistergoft wrote:Colorado

So you feel like all other aspects are equal? Tulane doesnt carry more prestige or portability with its degree than does ASU?mistergoft wrote:Please save yourself some money and go to ASU. Re: BP decides where you go to law school
Thanks. Does it complicate things if I want big law in Texas as my first shot? I am just worried that a Texas degree is only going to help me get biglaw in Texas, but Duke gives me just as good of a chance in Texas but also opens up many more markets. Correct?Nightrunner wrote:Presuming you want mobility (since you don't indicate a location, and your schools are all over the board), I'd pick Duke. Honestly, you can't really go wrong here...Duke is the bigger bet, since you're taking on the most debt, but it also provides the greatest probability of "big monies."Jericwithers wrote:Yes, Yes, and big monies.Nightrunner wrote:a. those scholarships?Jericwithers wrote:Texas in-state $60k

Re: BP decides where you go to law school
I kind of feel that if I couldn't get Texas biglaw out of Duke then I probably couldn't out of UT either (I went to UT for undergrad so I am rooted here in a sense). Yet at Duke I could have "secondary" markets like NYC, DC, or Cali.Nightrunner wrote:If you want Texas, and you can get UT cheap as all hell...I would probably do it. Then again, I am more debt-averse than others...but Texas is great for Texas.Jericwithers wrote:Nightrunner wrote:

How about:
Chicago at sticker
Michigan w/$67k
Would like to do biglaw, not too picky about where.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your input. My decision had already been made, I just wanted to see what BP thoughtNightrunner wrote:Disclosure: I haven't researched this, since I don't want to live in Texas.Jericwithers wrote:

Still, my gut feeling is that Texas will outperform much of the lower T13 in Texas.
It is the rest of the US where I would think Duke could open more doors.

$ = total cost of school and COL for 3 years
For Philly market
1) Fordham; $180k
2) BU; $180k
3) Temple; $45k

Good job steering the curve ruiners away from mich you guysNightrunner wrote:Agreed. If you are 100% set on BigLaw, go Chicago. Otherwise, consider that $67K at an elite school to be an extremely awesome safety net.NayBoer wrote:Chicago.alien d wrote:How about:

OP id suggest mich only cause I don't think 67k is worth the slight advantage you'd get from chicago but that's jmo

Re: BP decides where you go to law school
I'd urge GW, just because it tends to have better biglaw placement, but that comes with less access to NYC. Go to Fordham if you get in.Nightrunner wrote:NYC for sure = Cardozo, or Fordham if you get in.mdgold wrote:Brooklyn- 7k/year

Open to eastern seaboard = GW, but you say NYC, so go NYC.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
