I frankly don't understand why the ranking isn't Vandy/GULC>>UT/UCLA given Vandy's employment outcomes over the past few years.do_me_a_favor wrote:i know!!!!! do you think we (vandy) can jump ahead of UCLA next year at least? if this kind of performance continues i could see nipping at UT's heels one daycandidlatke wrote:usnwr did vandy dirty with how ucla and georgetown shaped out

Not surprising at all to me. The CA market is not picking up as quickly as NY/DC/Chi/etc.Rigo wrote:Yeah UCLA's isn't bad but it's surprisingly weak considering peer schools are all up (no word on USC yet).

I heard that it also has to do with student/faculty ratio (vandy seems to have far fewer faculty compared to its tiny class size) but correct me if I'm wrong.favabeansoup wrote:I frankly don't understand why the ranking isn't Vandy/GULC>>UT/UCLA given Vandy's employment outcomes over the past few years.do_me_a_favor wrote:i know!!!!! do you think we (vandy) can jump ahead of UCLA next year at least? if this kind of performance continues i could see nipping at UT's heels one daycandidlatke wrote:usnwr did vandy dirty with how ucla and georgetown shaped out

Northwestern up, not sure if already posted.
http://www.law.northwestern.edu/profess ... y_2016.pdf
Had to just mess with url to find not officially on page yet.
153 grads in 100+ firms
18 grads at fed clerks
249 total grads
68.67 biglaw/fed clerk rate. [2015 was 69.44% so down a little bit this year]
Edit: the lack of UT's employment numbers as all this come out is telling and making me bite my nails.

Employment outcomes really aren't weighted as heavily as you'd think in the rankings methodology. Link.

For someone who would want to practice in Dallas/Houston or ATL, would going to Vandy be a better option than UT or Emory now?

I think the difference maker between UT and Vandy would be whichever has lower COAPrezRand wrote:For someone who would want to practice in Dallas/Houston or ATL, would going to Vandy be a better option than UT or Emory now?

Let's not get crazy.PrezRand wrote:For someone who would want to practice in Dallas/Houston or ATL, would going to Vandy be a better option than UT or Emory now?
I'd do UT for Dallas & Houston, Vandy for Atlanta with equal scholarships.

no. UT regional power still holds better. Just because Vandy can get more kids in other markets like NYC/DC/CA easier doesn't mean Vandy can start beating out UT in its home turf.PrezRand wrote:For someone who would want to practice in Dallas/Houston or ATL, would going to Vandy be a better option than UT or Emory now?
Also would depend heavily on cost/scholarship calculations. If in some alternate reality Vandy was 50-70k cheaper, maybe go over UT.

Re: Class of 2016 Employment Statistics by School
UCLA's performance seems to mostly be driven by a big drop in federal clerks. Biglaw seems to have have held.
Like someone mentioned above, it does seem like CA's legal market is lagging behind others; I get the impression a lot of the employment score increases are attributable to NYC's market picking up. Hard to say for sure though without better data. I'm curious to see what Berkeley's #s are.

Liz Lemon/Univ of Texas Law: I was popular for one glorious fortnight and then it went away. I don't know what I did wrong.Rigo wrote:March: UT becomes a T14.cannibal ox wrote:(wants to work in Texas)

Pretty crazy: NU sent a higher percentage to PI than Mich. Seems to completely go against the reputations the 2 schools have on here.

I think a good portion of that 100 mil was dedicated towards PI focused programs. NU will probably send more to PI from now on.dclaw93 wrote:Pretty crazy: NU sent a higher percentage to PI than Mich. Seems to completely go against the reputations the 2 schools have on here.
eta: why does the subject line automatically insert my name instead of copying the op title?

Re: Class of 2016 Employment Statistics by School
Agreed. But it looks like biggest difference between Mich/the other schools ranked 7-13 is actually state/local clerkships and government jobs, at least this year. Mich is at 15.9% and the other schools are all under 10%.cheaptilts wrote:Seems to also go against the excuses for Michigan's placementdclaw93 wrote:Pretty crazy: NU sent a higher percentage to PI than Mich.
