ok, this is all very hilarious. but there are things that worry me: while it is theoretically possible to admit an incredibly naive and completely uninformed student and turn them into a decent lawyer (THEORETICALLY), i have no choice but to assume that a vast majority of the students being taken on this ride have no business being in law school. However, the way grading works, some of these kids will have to get As, and someone, SOMEONE will have to be at the top of the class. how many employers are more willing to take the top student from Indiana Tech over a bottom 50% student from, say IU (-B or -I), despite the fact that the IU students will almost assuredly be better prepared, more qualified, and all around better choices?

I really doubt this will be an issue. Cooley c/o 2012 placed exactly one student, out of 999 graduates, in an NLJ 250 firm.

Even if it's not in NLJ 250 firms though, this just increases the possibilities of getting (potentially) bad lawyers into the market over better qualified candidates. I'm hoping you're right, and I'm hoping employers think along the same lines. Which they should, I suppose...

Because people are people, which means they're prone to optimism bias and confirmation bias. And because some people have a lot less cultural capital than others, which means they're more likely to trust the Peter Alexanders of the world without investigating whether what he's saying has any basis in reality. (Indeed if I had to bet on it, I would wager that one of the people being taken in by Alexander's spiel is Peter Alexander himself).

In regard to the comments in this thread generally, a little more compassion for people who lack the sophistication to realize much of the world is run by sanctimonious phonies wouldn't hurt.

It's the inaugural issue of their campus newsletter. I was going to pull some choice quotes for the thread, but honestly, you should check out this monstrosity for yourself.

My favorites are the pics of the uproarious student laughter and the grease ball teaching lawyering skills.

Needs more pond cummings though.

Some of the Q&A answers in the first faculty profile are priceless... particularly "Why did you decide to go to law school" and "Describe your perfect meal" (which had nothing to do with anything but still... ??? bizarre).
