Re: BP decides where you go to law school
this thread is hilarious and I'm completely hooked.
Ok - having a last minute freakout about it and would appreciate the advice - HLS v the Hamilton? Leaning towards H on the basis that it would be cheaper and nicer to live in than Columbia. Prefer the school atmosphere and would like the prestige.
Want prestigious DC biglaw.
Any meaningful career differences here? Just wanna know if anything closes the gap in actuality except my insane prestige whoring.

Re: BP decides where you go to law school
Northwestern or Georgetown. Assuming both at sticker.
I want PI, and ideally international stuff. Location after school is not super important, though I do want my degree to be portable. I feel like NY and DC are the two main markets for what I want to do, but I'm not dead-set on those cities by any means. At Northwestern, I'd be doing a 4-year JD/LLM program and get an LLM in International Human Rights.
One thing that makes wonder if GULC is a better fit is its location in DC. It also has great clinics, etc. for international and human rights stuff. And I absolutely love DC. However, I'm from Chicago, it's a great city, my friends/family are there, I know how to easily find an apartment there, and I have a legal job waiting for me there if I want/need it. Also, since I just got off of GULC's waitlist yesterday, I've been planning on depositing at Northwestern and have gotten pretty damn psyched about it.
I'm also still "under consideration" for money at Northwestern, but I'm 100% sure I won't get anything.
Tell me where to go!
thnx guyz

1. UGA (in-state)
2. Do Big Four public accounting for 2 years, get CPA work hours, and reapply. (3.35/170)
I either want Atlanta or Charleston. I have connections in Charleston. I'll have sat for my CPA but don't have the hours qualification if I don't do public accounting.

Work experience, especially of a financial nature, is valuable - you could probably come close to pulling NW wit your numbers and strong work experience.

Re: BP decides where you go to law school
To be honest Holly, after reading up on LRAP, especially for PI, which essentially forgives your loans after ten years in PI or something absurd (I didn't read that part, I only read about regular LRAP, which still, imo, makes paying sticker much more feasible at any school), I don't think UIUC should be in contention here.Holly Golightly wrote:Oh yeah, I also have a $25k/year scholly at UIUC and in-state tuition. As for Gtown and NW, I imagine the networking opportunities in DC would be exponentially better than in Chi, but I don't really know too much about it. If you're really comfortable with Chicago, though, I can't imagine graduating from NU would put you in much worse of a situation than graduating from Gtown.

I was in at Emory, withdrew. Visited and really disliked the facilities/student culture. I'm also on Vanderbilt's waitlist.Nightrunner wrote:I was thinking:mistergoft wrote:Reapply, are you batshit insane?TheBigMediocre wrote:1. UGA (in-state)

Ride the vandy waitlist, if you don't get in then work a year or two and then reapply. probably your best option.TheBigMediocre wrote:I was in at Emory, withdrew. Re: BP decides where you go to law school
Thanks for taking the time to do this. I'm choosing between:
NYU @ Sticker,
Berkeley (out of state for the first year) with a 18K/year scholarship and
Michigan (out of state for all three years, I believe) with a 20K/year scholarship.
Part of the scholarship money I'm receiving is need-based. Am I right to assume it's annual? I figure my finances won't change that dramatically since I plan to take public interest jobs my 1L + 2L summers and in-state isn't that much cheaper than out-of-state at Berkeley.
I'm interested in either becoming a law professor or going into public interest work. I also wouldn't be opposed to doing BigLaw, but it's not currently part of my plans. I'd prefer CA, but I really wouldn't mind not working in CA.

NYU (sticker)
Penn (sticker)
Michigan ($50K)
Not too keen on Biglaw, more focused on government job in DC.

I'm very interested in PI, but I want to keep my options open. I would like to have the ability to work in Texas, but I don't love the city of Houston.Nom Sawyer wrote:goals? where do you want to work?Burberry by Burberry wrote:School : Total Debt incl. COL

GULC then, gives you a lot more options... total debt isn't too high plus added scholarship possibility.Burberry by Burberry wrote:I'm very interested in PI, but I want to keep my options open.
