If there is one thing liberal arts and science/engin majors can all agree, it is that business degrees are TTT.

Respectable schools don't even have "business" or "accounting" majors. If you want to go into business, you major in economics.

Of course MIT, Penn, Michigan, and Cal aren't respectable. We are in the "Berkeley Haters" thread, after all :D

It was sort of a joke, sort of not. I still think economics is a better primer for business than "business" as ridiculous as that may look on paper.

This. But it also varies school to school. At schools that have business majors, the econ majors are often watered down.

i have never seen anyone who majored in a major called "business", it was usually more specific. i partly agree with you that economics is more hard core but ppl should not dismiss finance, accounting, etc majors just because there are a lot of TTT business schools because some of us actually come from respectable programs

I do know a few people who majored in "business." All of them are from TTT undergrads.

I believe that one gets a B.S. in business from Haas. Yes, that's right, a B.S. I don't understand how we can confer a Bachelor of Science for business, but not for Physics. I go to a strange school.

Finance is often legitimately hard, it's really just an application of economics.

I think what people mean when they make fun of 'business' majors on here is 'business administration' or 'business management'.

There's usually a business college with different available majors.

The people I know in this college are also the only people I know right now that have jobs. Some of them have pretty well paying jobs. That's not something to sneeze at ITE.

If I were recruiting for a large company, I wouldn't care about degrees for anything but jobs that require prior knowledge. I'd hire a philosophy major for the same job I'd hire a business major.

Obviously, if I were looking for a chemist, I'd hire a chem major.

TITCR, Has anyone actually sat through a ug managment course? Laughable. Managment, at the ug level, is probably the best (or worst?) example of useless pedagogization in an intuitive field, e.g Porter's five forces, SWOT analysis, 'key success factors', etc. (maybe not as bad as "business ethics", but close).
If you want to do business you need to at least minor in eco.

To be fair if we are talking lay prestige nobody knows what UChicago is, even in Chicago.

Its really embarrassing. Though anyone who knows much about academics really places a high value on UChicago. But said person would then look down at ND for being overrated.
+1 I've heard that UChicago is oftentimes confused with the University of Illinois at Chicago, particularly by those in Chicago. I guess the Galllup poll proves it.

By brother has been going to UofC hospital every couple weeks. But he constantly calls it UIC. He is college educated.

Berkeley?
Northern Illinois. Not to be confused with Northwestern.

My other brother goes to Western Illinois. So my mom now confused northern, western and northwestern. With hilarious results when she brags to her friends about me going to law school.
