Pick whichever because now tuition is practically equal between Michigan and Cornell. Congrats on a successful negotiation!

Also, as a current MLaw student, I can readily say that Phid party is not representative of normal culture here. There are parties, and yes, a decent amount of drinking, but other than that once-a-semester blowout, the place is pretty chill. I also do not like that scene, and you're totally not alone if you choose not to go to Phid party

I say Cornell because that's a solid price, and it's relatively close to your SO.

I shouldn't have made this thread until now, but updated with probably the final scholarship amounts! Can't believe how quickly everything went - super grateful.

based in your pro/con list it seems you like Duke the most? If that's the case, then Duke, especially with the updated offer.

I know you shouldn't usually choose a law school based on whether or not you liked the vibe, but I'd be a little wary of committing to Duke before visiting. Seems like you liked Cornell and Michigan. When the schools are this close together in cost and employment outcomes, there's something valuable in that.
Try and visit Duke. In my opinion, Cornell still suits your goals and needs the best, but you can't make a wrong choice here.

Thanks! I actually didn't really like Michigan. Like objectively I like the law school but the entire "vibe" wasn't there. Cornell felt more like where I could see myself being. I'm definitely not making a decision before visiting Duke, and I know I'm lucky that I have options to essentially pick which one I just like better.Malarkey wrote:I know you shouldn't usually choose a law school based on whether or not you liked the vibe, but I'd be a little wary of committing to Duke before visiting. Question for lawyers: are there any downsides to Cornell being lower ranked? In terms of firms that interview, government positions, etc.?

I've seen (and heard at ASWs) about firms hat only go to t10 schools to interview, but I know what the consensus on this site would say, which is why I asked. I haven't seen any data for either point, so I'm kind of blind as a 0LKMart wrote:im surprised and upset this is still being asked so let's reiterate it yet againexistentialcrisis wrote:No.Keilz wrote:Question for lawyers: are there any downsides to Cornell being lower ranked? The t10 is not a real thing. It's an especially laughable idea because the rankings at that level change all the time. I genuinely don't know the order of the 8-12 schools.Keilz wrote:I've seen (and heard at ASWs) about firms hat only go to t10 schools to interview, but I know what the consensus on this site would say, which is why I asked. Yeah, with lawyers club Michigan only includes like $2,000 for all other room and food expenses (incl breakfast and weekend meals) so it's definitely more. I'm sure their 2017-18 tuition will be similar to Duke and cornell.chargers21 wrote:Just so that you're aware, I think UM underestimates COA relative to Duke's overestimate. Duke is about 7 hours from me, which is the same as my UG. I only flew once or twice. Driving was the most convenient.

+1 which is why I'm mostly think this is a matter of choosing the schools Keilz likes most / will be happiest atchargers21 wrote:Just so that you're aware, I think UM underestimates COA relative to Duke's overestimate.
