The "just retake!" philosophy bothers me. Statistically, not everyone is going to go to a T14 (or T20, or T50) law school. There will always be Columbia people, and there will always be Fordham people, and there will always be Syracuse people. A free degree from UNLV is not a bad way to go. But you will probably be committing to working in Nevada for at least the first 5-10 years.

If your father is currently practicing in Oregon, you should probably go to Oregon. Regional schools are just that: regional. They place best in their own state.
And if you'd read the rest of the thread, you'd see that the OP is angling for good (i.e. federal) clerkships and working at the SEC, neither of which are likely outcomes from UNLV (or any of the other schools mentioned). If the OP had said, "I'd like to work at a mid-sized firm in [insert state here]," then no one would be telling him that these schools were bad choices.

Also, just to echo the above, why on earth will the school's ranking in 10-20 years matter?

Just giving a quick overview. Didn't know if OP knew anything about UNLV. I think it's relevant whether a school is steady, new and potentially up-and-coming (UNLV has had jumps in the US News rankings, but fluctuates), or in free fall (ex. Dickinson). No one wants to enroll in a T50 school and end up graduating from a T80. Or claim a dying/nonexistent program as their alma mater.

Anyway, if it doesn't matter, please ignore.

Employers dont change their opinions of schools on a year to year basis due to the USNews rankings.
