I presume what will happen is that he will still keep his job (because tenure) but the institution won't really support him and he'll look for something else as soon as he can.

omfg, tenure is a complete joke - along with the pensions for retired/emeritus professors/admin that are more or less single handedly bankrupting Berkeley and causing a 150 million deficit........we need to revamp academia
