Brut, are you drunk right now? The post above you clearly links the Aba employment data with 12% PI. You're just attacking the posters without making much sense yourself.

Looks like brut is using PI in a broader sense. When we generate public service scores, we include government (but not clerkships) and public interest. That's the number you should be looking at, rather than just PI, almost always.pppp wrote:Brut, are you drunk right now? The post above you clearly links the Aba employment data with 12% PI. Re: Harvard vs NYU full - PI focus
Magazine rankings have nothing to do with PI hiring. It is all work experience, networking, and connections. NYU has all of those in at least as much abundance as Harvard. And even if that's wrong, Harvard's slightly better connections are not worth $200k. What are you talking about your loans will be forgiven? If she does all 10 years of PSLF, then yes they will be, but if she doesn't make it, there's no forgiveness and LIPP wont help either. Of course, OP may decide prestige matters more to her and she'll choose Harvard, but it is important that she sees what she's giving up and taking on in making that choice. This is not a flip a coin, heads I win, tails you lose kind of thing.pppp wrote:As far as the OPs question goes you can't really go wrong either way. It basically comes down to how sure you are about Public Interest. If I were you I'd probably go Harvard. The name just opens doors and the debt will be forgiven anyway.
I don't understand public interest hiring 100% but it seems that in a field where the hiring isn't as concrete as a law firm with their knowledge of us news rankings that it would be very possible the name of Harvard vs nyu may be an even bigger gap than organized hiring in big law.

Relax. They make a distinction on that site between public interest at 11.3% and government at 5.x%. Combined they form a public service score at 16.x%. These are small distinctions and not a big deal whatsoever. I'm just pointing out that your attacking people and making a big deal out of nothingBrut wrote:no offense, but you're pretty stupid if you're not able to figure out what public service placement is WHEN THERE'S A LABEL THAT SAYS "PUBLIC SERVICE SCORE" (http://www.lstscorereports.com/schools/nyu/2014/)pppp wrote:Brut, are you drunk right now? OP, take the Vanderbilt and go to NYU. I took a CCN full ride over H with a PI background and don't regret it for a second, and neither will you. There are extremely limited circumstances when it makes some sense to turn down the money, but they are not yours, and you seem to be the perfect case for taking it. Go forth to Greenwich Village and prosper.pppp wrote:As far as the OPs question goes you can't really go wrong either way. It basically comes down to how sure you are about Public Interest. Wow I went out of town and have not been checking TLS until today - thank you all for your responses!
It seems like the general consensus is NYU, which is good since I loved it when I visited!
I will be visiting Harvard and Chicago in April and I'm sure that will give me the information I need to make a decision, but the turnaround from the vists until my scholarship deadline is SO FAST so I want to go into the ASWs with a pretty solid idea of what I need in a school.
FWIW, I want to clerk for sure and while academia interests me, it seems silly for a KJD to base any sort of decision off the unicorn job I would need a PhD for.
I do have limited experience in legal PI already and feel confident I will want to pursue a career in PI for a significant amount of time, but of course I recognize that this could change once I enter law school.
Once again, thank you all so much for your feedback. I really appreciate it!!
