I've heard that expressing an earnest interest in tax is a big jump. People do not tend to expect social graces from tax attorneys.

That might be entirely myth, though.

No none of this matters for OCI. You won't take tax as a 1L anyway and if it's offered as an elective it will be irrelevant.

ETA : as smaug said expressing interest in the subject is important for that practice but which school you pick won't be considered probative of that interest by a recruiter

With your background you're not gonna have a problem getting lots of offers from either school, and like jbb said you won't even have taken tax when you do OCI. That's why I'd just go to the one where you think you'll be happier.

I found the above funny although right now they're probably your best options. UM would be substantially cheaper with 45k and cheaper COL. Might make sense for some people footing the bill themselves, but maybe not for you.
