Lol I love posts where ppl are all "dood if I wait longer I'll be 28 when I graduate"
Funny because
1. Employers prefer applicants who have lived a minute
And
2. Like anyone ever laid on their deathbed and said, "if only I had been a lawyer for one. more. year . . ."

Trust me, you are not missing out on anything. Whatever relative/SO/friend is telling you that you have to get your life started right now, or whatever cultural expectations you have that you're not a "real adult" unless you go to law school is going to hurt you in the end.neubreed wrote:It's not really impatience, it's just me taking a good hard look at my life - as mentioned, I'll be 25 as a 1L if I apply this year, and I'm not interested in dragging things out further. Further, I have some other, personal reasons for needing to get this show on the road.
The other issue is that obviously there's no guarantee that I won't choke again and end up with the same (or even a lower) score. I'm not sure I'm comfortable sitting out an entire year in the hopes that I'll luck out.
That said, I'm willing to retake, but I was wondering whether it would be possible to basically send my applications in, and then retake the LSAT in February, to see if I can ask for a larger scholarship at the schools I get into - is this a thing that has been/ can be done?
Some of the posters ITT have been overzealous. I went to CLS and know several friends working at Magic Circle firms or US firms that do a lot of international work (White & Case, Shearman, Paul Weiss). Some of them do get to travel to Europe for a few weeks or months at a time (they mostly work on these trips though, not sip champagne and enjoy local food) and work with local counsel. But if you want to do this you really have to put yourself in a position where you can wind up median and still have a shot at these firms. A few more points would get you CLS/NYU or money at lower T14s.

You haven't maxed out on your LSAT score.

You can always apply this year and take the LSAT and see how you do. If you do better, the correct choice might be to withdraw and reapply. Don't feel like you need to rush it and take the December or February test, either.

I've already said that I WILL be retaking, the question is whether applying this cycle is a good idea.jselson wrote:You haven't maxed out on your LSAT score.

Thanks for the input. This is pretty much what I'm leaning towards myself...hoos89 wrote:You can always apply this year and take the LSAT and see how you do. Sorry, I must have missed that (I saw that you said you were willing to retake).neubreed wrote:I've already said that I WILL be retaking, the question is whether applying this cycle is a good idea.jselson wrote:You haven't maxed out on your LSAT score.

Personally, if I was in your position and not planning on taking the Dec. test, I would just wait to apply until next year. A lot of spots and a lot of money will have already gone out by the end of February, and you may get a worse deal than otherwise.

All good, just a little tetchy after all the 'retake' posts, thanks for your response.jselson wrote:Sorry, I must have missed that (I saw that you said you were willing to retake).neubreed wrote:I've already said that I WILL be retaking, the question is whether applying this cycle is a good idea.jselson wrote:You haven't maxed out on your LSAT score.

I was going to apply now, take a look at the offers, and then take the Feb LSAT to maybe negotiate for more $$$. Pretty torn on whether this is a good idea, as it obv won't affect where I get in in the first place.

Can't hurt to apply now. See what offers you get, see what the Feb LSAT gets you, negotiate more. If you feel the options still aren't good enough, just apply again next year. Depending on how many fee waivers you get, it might not even be that expensiveneubreed wrote:All good, just a little tetchy after all the 'retake' posts, thanks for your response.jselson wrote:Sorry, I must have missed that (I saw that you said you were willing to retake).neubreed wrote:I've already said that I WILL be retaking, the question is whether applying this cycle is a good idea.jselson wrote:You haven't maxed out on your LSAT score.
