Perhaps if you know anyone with similar numbers to mine, and have an idea of whether or not they received scholarships (let alone gained admission!), that would be really helpful!
LSAT: 165
GPA: 3.97
What do you think? Could I be looking at some financial help?

you'll def get $$. They might lowball you at first but just keep negotiating (respectfully). You will get over 50%. Probably close/about 75% (just because they dont often go higher unless youre URM)lujanj7 wrote:That wasn't my question.james.bungles wrote:retakelujanj7 wrote:Hi there! You will get plenty of money from BC. With those numbers, you should get plenty of money from schools ranked higher than BC as well. As a reference point, I was exactly at median numbers wise and was able to pull off more than half scholarship. You are in a much better place than I was.lujanj7 wrote:AlanShore wrote:lujanj7 wrote:you'll def get $$. They might lowball you at first but just keep negotiating (respectfully). Thanks for the input! I hope that since they have been dropping their medians that maybe they will be a little more generous with students who rank above their typical LSAT and GPA ranges. They need to start appealing to students in the upper 160's in order to get their ranking back up to where it was a few years ago. I am a little disappointed that I missed BC while it was in its "prime," but I want to take advantage of its dip in stats.

Re: Boston College 2L Taking Questions
How do "reverse-splitters" fare in terms of scholarship money?
More generally, what are the common stips on financial aid? Top 25-30%? Top 20%? etc.
Are there any students from CA who attend and have promising job prospects back on the west coast or are students' job searches entirely regional?
many thanks

Re: Boston College 2L Taking Questions
Entirely anecdotal: I don't know too many people who are from CA and are trying to get back there. With that said, i know one 3L who i working at Latham in CA after graduation, and I know of a 3L last year who also pulled off a gig in CA.mud415 wrote:How do "reverse-splitters" fare in terms of scholarship money?

My financial aid package only asked that i stay in good academic standing (minimum GPA 2.0). With regards to splitters, I would be surprised if BC is any different than other reverse splitters in terms of scholarship money.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but with a 165, 3.97 and URM status, you should be looking at much better schools than BC.lujanj7 wrote: I actually am Mexican, and a woman... so maybe that counts for something? I would check LSN but I would imagine you could be looking at a decent amount of $$ from Cornell, which would be a much better option, especially if BC is stingy with $.

What happens to folks with the misfortune of being in the bottom half of the class?

A few lucky people will land big law (probably through connections, being really good networkers and luck). Some will work at a small firm which is fine unless they're in a lot of debt. Really, it depends on your debt level. If you don't have much, you not really in a terrible terrible spot if you're fine with working at a small firm. If you do have a lot of debt then that sucks.BlueLotus wrote:What happens to folks with the misfortune of being in the bottom half of the class?

Just received acceptance today... 163/3.84, wondering what that might mean for potential $$$? Received $30k a year to W&M would prefer to stay closer to home though... Do you think that could be a useful negotiating chip?

I used W&M as a bargaining chip, and it worked. Definitely negotiate upwards.GoBills wrote:Just received acceptance today... 163/3.84, wondering what that might mean for potential $$$?
