Re: ED CLS or NYU?
if you're gunning for nyc biglaw, cls/nyu has an advantage over mich/nuMadagascarYX wrote:Is that really the case? I mean wouldn't it be much easier for students to find a biglaw job if they graduate from CCN than from other T7-14?lawlorbust wrote:so the concern is about securing such an offer in the first place. This is obviously almost as doable from Penn, Virginia, etc. as it is from CCN, which argues for the OP applying more widely.
I am really interested in doing international law & Competition law, both of which have most of their markets in NYC. So basically I have set my eyes on working in NYC. That's one of the reasons why I said I wanted to ED CLS or NYU in the first place. But if I go to other schools, say, Northwestern or Michigan or Penn, do I get roughly the same chance to secure an biglaw offer in NYC?
the question is the value you place on that advantage
cls/nyu over mich/nu at equal cost for nyc biglaw is a no-brainer
but mich/nu will probably offer more money
that completely changes the equation

Congrats. I mean for internationals who did ug outside US, which is the case of op, things are a lot different. I know ppl with GPA evaluated as S and 175+ or 170+ lsat wled by cls, nyu or even penn. Op might need to take that into factor when making his application decisions.lawlorbust wrote:I'm an international who did ugrad at an ivy; decided on HYS over NYU (vandy), Columbia and Chi (half). Feel free to PM.blahblahddd wrote:TBH, internationals generally have very different cycles. CLS almost wled everyone who did ug in my country, from 175 to lower 170 eds. NYU wled almost everyone who's below 175. As far as I know, their applications r ok with no C&F issues.
General thoughts: If financial aid is important for OP, definitely do not apply ED. I thought that, my international status notwithstanding, I performed to expectations during my cycle, but maybe schools really do treat US undergrads differently from "true" internationals.
If the OP's main objective is to secure US biglaw after graduation, work authorization issues largely will not factor. Most market-paying firms will be fine with sponsoring authorization regardless of whether you graduated from a T3, T6 or T14 school, so the concern is securing such an offer in the first place. This is obviously almost as doable from Penn, Virginia, etc. as it is from CCN, which argues for the OP applying more widely.

Exactly! Things for internationals who did ug outside US are just a black box.. 173 literally means "you are qualified for some T14, regardless of the money you might get"blahblahddd wrote: Congrats. You will probably get NYU, but not CLS without ED (based on my observation of three cycles of applicants with UG in China). So ED CLS if you decide to ED.
But ED CLS means no money, not a penny. NYU will probably give you 40-60k. Consider that.
