if you can get your LSAT up 165+ you are looking at a half ride to USC. A bit more than that, a full ride, as well as a good chance at decent $ at UCLA, with potential consideration at Berkeley the higher you get.

If you can't get big law and don't want small law, obvi medium law should be your target.rickgrimes69 wrote:lol @ "medium law"
OP- Hastings is obviously having problems placing people in firms of 4-100 attorneys. That's why their underemployment score is such a whopper. Doesn't matter how "well respected" the school is or whatever. The school is a trainwreck and honestly should be shut down unless they make a big time turn around. I beg of you. Please, please don't do it.

I've rarely seen such unwavering resolve to choose one of two horrible options. You had some kind of Hastings vs. Santa Clara megathread going last fall as well, right?

Haha thanks, yea the previous was all hypothetical, but now that I'm in. It had me doing some rethinking.paayter wrote:OP you have a 3.8...thats pretty good, wish I had that gpa. Just even three or four more points would definitely get you in to usc, and a good chance at UCLA according to LSN. I just found it funny cuz it seemed like u were bashing davis on the davis thread haha, but congrats.
In terms of hastings v davis you seemed to have your own reasons for choosing hastings over davis. If you receive no money or less than 10k per year from Davis I'd say go Hastings. It seems as though you'd prefer to live in the city from previous posts. If getting equal money then go Davis for the obvious reason of employment scores. Good luck.

Yup doing some thinking. Got a pretty high offer from Davis actually.matthewsean85 wrote:You should be doing some rethinking.Moonlight wrote:Haha thanks, yea the previous was all hypothetical, but now that I'm in. Didn't you say could live rent-free at Hastings? What did you get from Davis?

Oh yea. So I ended up with a 30K offer actually. I know I know. Not a full ride, etc. But it was higher than what I expected by far.paayter wrote:

And yes! Fallingwater you are correct. I can live free if I go to Hastings but I heard Davis has a low rent? I didn't look into that though to be honest...

Even if it is 30k/year and you get instate tuition, still don't go.

I'm at a ~35 attorney "medium law" firm. Hastings c/o 2012. Seems like most of our post-2008 hires have been people who had big law credentials but missed out at OCI. Or top 5% types from T2/T3 schools.rickgrimes69 wrote:lol @ "medium law"

Re: UC Davis Scholarship Unknown Yet vs Hastings 20k
I went to Davis for UG. It's still CA and it's a college town, meaning it's still expensive. Sure, you could probably score a place for $500/month, but it adds up. Plus, you would probably have to drive/bus/bike to campus. I love that school and I love the law school (ASW was great), but I think what you will save on COL makes Hastings a better option.
In your situation:
Davis = ~$120k+ in debt
Hasting=~$90K+ in debt
Plus, at Hastings you will have more resources at home (not that Davis is a far drive away). I do think Hasting's current ranking is a bit sketchy though... and Davis is probably a better investment in the long run, but I can really only speculate.
I know you said not to say this, but seriously consider retaking in September, aiming for a 165. You will have a complete jump on your apps and either end up with more $ or at a better school with $. You can have all my preptests if you want.

Neither school is worth 90k+ debt. Only a T20 school is worth that risk. 90k debt will be terrible even if you get a "medium law" job. I'm living it right now, have no reason to mislead you.

This. I'm all for going to Davis with realistic goals. It's not exactly a festering TTT. However, $30,000/yr is not enough. That's still $17,000 + per year in tuition (add in interest and rising tuition) and COL.twenty wrote:Even if it is 30k/year and you get instate tuition, still don't go.
