Washington U St Louis is a pretty big deal (in general not law specifically). It's med school and engineering are top. In the midwest it's considered relatively prestigious.

Emory is better known than the other three. Not much pull outside the south though.
I would bet money that the average person on the streets of New York (or any major city outside of Atlanta or St. Louis) has heard more about Tulane that either Emory or WUSTL. But you have to take the law community into account, and that's where Emory and WUSTL have an edge over Tulane...and even that depends on old v. Young members. Older members hold Tulane in very high regard, while younger members may not regard it as highly.

It's pretty clear that SMU and Colorado drag up the rear. All are good law schools, but Duke is in another league entirely.

I would take that bet and double down. Im from neither of those cities and Ive lived in two other major cities where Washington University is far more well-known/better regarded than Tulane.

It's actually the opposite IMO: WashU has a weaker law school than it's reputation in other fields would suggest.

Only because Tulane is the super safety undergrad for New Yorkers

And by your metric, University of Alabama would be the best choice because people have heard of it.
