EDIT: Raise your standards. With your 3.7 you could be going to schools like Chicago and Columbia with scholarship. Think of it as being paid ~$100,000 to study for 6-8 months and take a multiple choice test, because that's exactly the opportunity you're passing up if you choose not to retake.

That dollar amount is much higher when you consider potential lifetime earnings.

I thought Chicago favored higher GPAs unless that LSAT is Median+ ? 3.7 isn't even close to median. Am I missing something or...?

It helps no one to call flame this quick. There is nothing about op that suggests he cannot be real. When I came to TLS my dream schools were Hastings and Lewis and Clark. If people had just dismissed me as a flame I could have made a life-ruining decision. If someone in the on topics is not obviously trolling or a flame, give them the benefit of the doubt. Even if they are flame, who knows how many lurkers could be saved by the advice in a thread like this?

Actually I was not trolling around on the web or anything. Thanks for the advice anyway. I decided to retake in October after i put in four months. It would be foolish not to, since I only took the exam once after 2 months of studying. How attainable is 165+ from a 153?

Meanwhile, I'll try to find a job to cover for expenses after my BA. It feels good to take a year off, I was one of those k-BA types.

haha thanks for the advice. I was actually going to school 18+ credits, taking and LSAT online course, and working P/T the last month of my LSAT studies.


Does school name matter for PI though? I heard for the public defender's office it's all about grades and commitment to indigent defense. Does T-14 have advantage over TT?

This is usually true (even more so commitment to indigent defense over grades). I think there are a couple of more prestige-whore type of PD employers (D.C. comes to mind), but experience/connections is generally the most important factor. If you're absolutely committed to being a PD, going somewhere decent but not T14, where you can do a lot of interning for employers that might hire you after graduation, for CHEAP, is a totally reasonable response. If you're not totally committed, or think you might want to try something else, then you'd probably want to go to the school with the best employment stats (which is why people here recommend the T14). Or if you can get into a T14 with a great LRAP, that's another consideration.

Edited to add: the above addresses the PD specifically. There are other kinds of PI (e.g. working for the ACLU) where pedigree will matter a lot. But for the PD, probably not.
