Re: University of Akron School of Law
Hey man, a 160 cold on the LSAT isn't bad! I had a 161 on my diagnostic. Studied about 3-5 hours a week for maybe 3 months. Choked a bit on test day and still got a 173.
It is really easy to get your score up if you have a high diagnostic. With a 170+, you could very reasonably be looking at Michigan and Northwestern. ED would probably lock up one of Mich/UVA if you do well enough. That's ten more questions.
So stop being a baby and retake the lsat. Nobody studies for the ACT or SAT, it doesnt make you special. No one enjoys studying for the LSAT.
Even if you go to Akron and succeed beyond your wildest imaginations, you'll come nowhere close to what a median bro at Michigan would get.

I took the LSAT cold and also made a 160 and also had a 3.2. Was faced with similar scholarship with similar stipulations at a similar TTT (although even with those stats I got into a couple T1s). Even went to ASD at said TTT. Eerily similar situation.
Studied for months, made a 170+, and will now be attending a T30 in the city were I want to practice with $$$. Do yourself a favor.

Lol this is great. You have openly admitted to being an academic bum, and you think you are gonna be in the top 10% of the class. Greattt.

However cool you think you are by saying "I scored X and I didn't even study", you look ten times the fool by being the idiot who didn't maximize his chances. Maybe the 160 who studied his ass off isn't as smart as you, but he sure as hell has more common sense.
We all think we're special snowflakes and we all have reasons to think it's us that will be in the top 10%, and not the other 90% of those gasbags. But the ones of us who thought about this, and did things like actually study for the LSAT, made backup plans so that if God forbid we're not in the top third, we'll still be okay. You're planning on a crappy school with a scholarship you're statistically likely to lose. If that can't deter you, nothing will.

On his behalf, it's probably easier to try when a client's future is on the line assuming he's a prosocial individual.hopkins23 wrote:During an interview:Clearlynotstefan wrote:Lol this is great. IDK. It's like an aggressive driver toning it down when their kid is in the car. Maybe he's an all around douche. You think this fool, who doesn't even bother to study for the LSAT when his own future and career are on the line, is going to all of a sudden care (or be "prosocial") about someone else's well being?

If you want to practice in Ohio, Akron could MAYBE be ok IF you do really well. Outside of Ohio, it's pretty much as valuable as Cooley.

So, if I want to practice in Michigan, should I pick Cooley over Akron?JJ123 wrote:If you want to practice in Ohio, Akron could MAYBE be ok IF you do really well. Outside of Ohio, it's pretty much as valuable as Cooley.
I thought Cooley was terrible, although I read it is merging with Western Michigan University, and WMU is one of the top public universities in the region. Maybe Cooley's rep will get better after the merge? Possibly even ranked without ranking itself?

Yes, Western Michigan, bastion of scholarship in the Midwest. Retake or don't go.dominicmassue wrote:So, if I want to practice in Michigan, should I pick Cooley over Akron?JJ123 wrote:If you want to practice in Ohio, Akron could MAYBE be ok IF you do really well. No, no one should ever go to Cooley. I was trying to find something worthless to compare Akron's portability to. Perhaps I should have said "a steaming pile of rotten, fermented dogshit".dominicmassue wrote:So, if I want to practice in Michigan, should I pick Cooley over Akron?JJ123 wrote:If you want to practice in Ohio, Akron could MAYBE be ok IF you do really well. If you want to work in Michigan, go to WMU. Or retake the LSAT and go to Ohio State or Case Western for Ohio, or Michigan or Michigan State for Michigan.

It's just impossible for me to hide my contempt for those students anymore. I mean, you keep your kid away from bleach when he's five because you don't want him drinking it, but if he's 25 and decides drinking bleach is a good idea, he probably deserves it. The word has been out about Cooley for a long time. If I knew literally nothing about law school, it would take me all of two minutes on Google to realize it's an awful school.

Sorry, someone mentioned the merger betwen Cooley and WMU, and I got all confused. Meant to say OP should go to Michigan State to practice in Michigan.ImNoScar wrote:WMU?JJ123 wrote:If you want to work in Michigan, go to WMU. This needed to be said. I can't respect anyone who is oblivious and/or stupid enough to attend a law school with a sub-25% LST employment score. The fact that this festering TTTT hasn't already been shut down weakens my faith in humanity. I mean, even before I started seriously researching law schools and their employment prospects, I could at least discern that any school that wasn't on USNWR's top 100 list probably wasn't worth attending...Monochromatic Oeuvre wrote:Threads mentioning Cooley non-ironically should redirect to dog-shit-on-the-bottom-of-your-shoe-but-whatever-yolo-i'm-gonna-be-a-lawyer.com.
