LSAT/GPA? Goal as a lawyer? Where do you want to practice, geographically? Work experience?

I'd love to work in either the DC or NY area. I was only at a 160 on the LSAT with a 3.98 GPA.. I just got news I received 45,000 over three years at GW. Regardless, it's still the dilemma between GW and St. Johns full scholarship.

3.98?! And you're considering settling with a 160/crappy LS decisions? May sound like a broken record but retake. With that GPA you truly could go wherever you wanted with a good enough LSAT. Also, GW is the second ranked school in the most densely populated market in the nation...terrible idea.

Absolutely retake! With a good LSAT the sky is the limit. You can get free rides from top schools.

I would take the free ride at St. John's. It could be potentially difficult to find a job after graduating from either school, so take the safer route. I wouldn't want a $200k student loan dictating my life.

What are the stipulations on the St. John's full ride? TCR is obviously retake but if you absolutely refuse to do that, St. Johns with $$$$ > GW at sticker.

I retook a third time. This fall I will be attending Harvard.

Thanks for posting this. People need to be encouraged. Maybe if they see what might be possible they will be willing to work harder for a retake seeing actual positive results.

I think people should aim high and work for the best.

Although you shouldn't do it either way. Please retake. 11 points higher and you have a better than 50-50 shot at one of HYS. 8 points higher and you have a better than 50-50 shot at one of CCN. 6 points higher and you will get into a T14.

I can't help but wonder how many people misread this thread as I did as "full scholarship" (implying living expenses stipend) vs "full tuition" (implying 100% tuition covered with no stipend).

I can't imagine half of the voters would recommend GW at sticker over a full ride anywhere.

I didn't make it to Harvard, but I'll echo that waiting a cycle is a wonderful idea in your situation. Waiting a cycle was the single best decision I have made in my life, and I mean that from my heart. I am starting better prepared, going to a better school than where I'd have gone from my initial cycle, with more connections in my chosen niche that will benefit me in securing summer work, and with much better offers financially.

I did not retake, but I did other activities to better prepare myself. In your case, I would do a retake alongside other types of preparation, such as trying to do an activity (work or volunteering) that is related to the field you would like to pursue or to law in general.

You have a chance to be among the standout lawyers of our generation if you devote a small portion of your life to preparing and to conveying your preparation. That is a chance that few people get; I implore you not to rush past the opportunity by accepting the easy path of choosing between your existing acceptances. Though it might feel painful to decide to postpone something you're excited about, I believe even some small amount of additional preparation would leave you stunned at how much better your choices are next cycle.
