I think it was 18. Not good either way, obviously.Desert Fox wrote:Wasn't Illinois's NLJ250 number 11% this year?

The USNWR rankings have never reflected reality except T20 v everyone else. If they did you wouldn't see this: http://www.lstscorereports.com/?r=guides&show=13arden311 wrote:Of course! I'm not arguing that you should go to Illinois over Northwestern. That would be silly. Back to my OP, I'm just saying that unless the NLJ 250 numbers drop dramatically, and they very well might and that's what I'm trying to get a feel for, the school's USNews rankings simply don't reflect reality. However, my guess is that a large chunk of this number is people placed in patent law. Illinois is somewhat known for that. So it could be deceptive.timbs4339 wrote:Uh...all the firms hire one or two people out of the same group of high acheivers. I thought this was obvious. Regardless, you're proving my point here. They're only hiring from the top quartile. But don't expect Illinois Alum Biglaw Partner to tell you that bit of info.arden311 wrote: Ok, then how do you explain the 18.5 percent NLJ 250 number? You're saying that one person in the top 20% gets a call back. Where does the rest of the 18.5 percent come from?
And it's not one or two people, it was 40 people. Better than any Big Ten school save Michigan.

They sent me that email too about US News World Reportgate. They claim their 2012 employment numbers are way better than their ranking. They're probably right. As far as schools outside the T14 + UT, UCLA, USC, Vanderbilt go they put a fair amount of people into BigLaw. 6th most common school in Chicago BigLaw behind Chicago, Northwestern, Harvard, Michigan, and NYU. If the Chicago legal market ever recovers they'll look a lot better than a school barely hanging onto the 50's as far as the whole USNWR stuff goes. Which isn't still to say it's an awful option the majority of the time.
