I'd have to agree. You see a lot more Obama stickers on lockers than Romney, which has to mean something I'm sure.eaper wrote:IDK, in my section at UT there are probably 3 libs to every conservative.Cade McNown wrote:From experience, people are not giving UT enough credit for its conservatism. Sure Austin is full of hipsters, but not the law school (Sweatt v. Painter anyone?). Plus we still think it's a good idea to employ Lino Graglia . . .

I think most professors tend to be conservative everywhere, except maybe crimlaw professors. Students do not matter. This is not college, you will not generally come across Chomsky-like, if Bush says the sky is blue-then it must be pink, type of people.

If your views are defensible, then you shouldn't have any problem defending them. Go to the best law school you get into.

Northwestern is fairly fiscally conservative. A lot of the academics are free market bros.
I doubt you'll find many socially conservative law schools that aren't some sort of TTT fundie shithole.

Probably this has to do with much of "social conservatism" being intellectually indefensible.Desert Fox wrote:Northwestern is fairly fiscally conservative. A lot of the academics are free market bros.

Chicago certainly has conservative cred, but not sure about the law school. Certainly it's got to be the most right of the T14, but that's not saying much.
Definitely George Mason. Their reputation for being conservative goes beyond just the faculty but really in promoting a certain philosophy based in conservative economics (econ courses I believe are required there).
That said, I have to agree with a lot of people on this thread in saying that it doesn't really matter. Your views are your own and professors and fellow students alike will probably respect them. Case in point: my sister just graduated from George Mason law. She is mega-liberal. She was extremely pleased with her education, often disagreed with her professors but never felt uncomfortable, and her LoRs coming out of school were written by a guy who is now Rick Perry's Solicitor General.

Your views will only become an issue if you make them one, because nobody cares what you think. You can join a think tank and insulate yourself from opposing viewpoints when you're done with law school, but until then, you live in a world where not everyone agrees with you.
Try Colorado, Wisconsin, or Berkeley. I hear they're pretty conservative.

Of all the factors that should matter to you in picking a law school, this one should pretty much nonexistent. You should go to the school that best matches your professional and financial goals, not one that makes you feel insulated from the shitlibs for three years.

BYU is hands down the most conservative school. I am going there for my Undergrad and they are conservative to a fault! As you probably know its an LDS funded school so its also religiously conservative as well.

Re: Conservative law schools?
The law school is more moderate. I haven't really noticed a general rightward bent among the faculty, though there are some who are definitely conservative. There are also some staunch lefties and many whose politics I can't discern. The student body leans right, but there are plenty of lefties and moderates, too.Nickg415 wrote:BYU is hands down the most conservative school. What you definitely don't get from the faculty is the anti-religious and anti-conservative scorn common in other corners of academia (speaking from experience). The lefties, righties, and moderates are all pretty respectful of differing points of view, which is refreshing.
