Eh... I'd disagree. Cal, UCLA, UCSD are all on separate tiers, but UCSD and UCD are not peers. UCD is much closer to UCI and UCSB if you look at admission numbers, general reputation of the various programs, etc. If you were to weigh one department over another, UCI / UCSB would actually be better than UCD (vice versa also applies of course).

This is what I'd always thought, but it's been ten years since I applied. I got into UCI and UCD but was rejected at UCSB, but I know of plenty of other people with different combinations of acceptance/rejection at those three schools.

I think the gave up on trying to keep the same admissions standards as USC/UCLA when they started expanding their class and stopped giving everyone full rides. The LSN graph puts them more in line with Hastings and Davis.

I guess that makes sense; overall as a university they usually rank closer to Davis than to UCLA/USC/UCSD/UCSB.

WHAT? Dude, just because you don't know UCSB, don'd defend your ignorance. UCSB overall is above UCD/UCI (which have no Nobel Laureates and their endowments per student are much lower).

You have unnecessarily made my defend a position I didn;t mean to so strongly take, but your position is just wrong.

I have recruited (though in engineering and science) and UCSB is a great school. In my field UCSB and UCLA are in the same league (I say that as a UCLA alum) though not overall.

Check your stats. Average SAT score for incoming freshman class at UCI was 1750's, UCSB's was 1850's. Those are both for students who actually accepted. Get your stats right buddy. Gauchos>Anteaters + Aggies.

yeah, i dono, when i applied ucsd/la/berkeley were reaches, UCR and UCD admitted me real quickly but UCI only did so at the end, holding out on me, i didn't even apply to UCSB cause, while, i guess i was drunk and didn't actually click on the school and ended up clicking on ucsc instead

My sister got into Berkeley and UCLA but chose UCSB. As a UCSD alum bitter that I didn't get into Based Cal or UCLA, I told her she was an idiot.

Similar story here. I went to UCSD, but didn't get into Berkeley or UCLA. I have a friend who got into Berkeley and UCLA and not UCSD. I always thought that was weird.
