They are both great. Only peers in NYC. Everywhere else Chicago gives you an undeniable placement advantage.

In numbers, and percentages. But, it us much more likely that a Chicago person gunning NYC gets it than an NYU person.

TaipeiMort, just wondering how you'd respond to UChicago's latest employment stats. They weren't awful or anything considering it was c/o 2011, but you'd have a hard time backing up the "Chicago has better job prospects than everyone except Yale/Stanford" meme:

- 12% of the class was in a law school funded job (basically tied with Cornell/GULC for 2nd-worst in T-14; UVA took the cake with like 18%)

- 54% in a law firm of 100+ or a federal clerkship (roughly even with Berkeley/Duke, behind NU, well behind Penn/Columbia)

It's just one year, but for that year Chicago looked like any other T-14.

For the sake of comparison, I did an "unemployment" breakdown for c/o 2010 using rayiner's method in http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 1&t=181723. We can't do this for 2011 because I don't think all of the data is available yet.

NYU:

Graduates: 497
Employment is unknown, unemployed, grad school: 0+11+6=17
Employment is law-school funded: 38*
Academic = 3
Law firms < 50 attorneys: 21
Business/industry: 14 / 2 = 7
State & local clerkships = 12
---
Probably unemployed: 58 (12%)
Probably less than desirable jobs: 40 (8%)
Upper bound: 98 / 497 = 20%

Chicago:

Graduates: 195
Employment is unknown, unemployed, grad school: =0+4+0=4
Employment is law-school funded: 2
Academic = 3
Law firms < 50 attorneys: 14
Business/industry: 8/2 = 4
State & local clerkships = 3
---
Probably unemployed: 9
Probably less than desirable jobs: 21
Upper bound: 30 / 195 = 15%

If you see any mistakes, please point them out. I did Columbia and Penn a while ago for my own curiosity. I think they were ~12% and ~22% respectively.

*ETA: I possibly double-counted law school funded for NYU. Anyone have any idea of how to separate these out?
