OP, no to both questions.

You should balance trying to go to law school as cheaply as possible against the reputation of the law schools you are accepted to. GW has a good reputation, but it's not worth anywhere near $200,000; the same can be said about most of the T14. Assuming that you would be looking at sticker at GW, you should be targeting scholarships at lower ranked T50 schools.

Sticker is only appropriate if you get into HYS CCN. Otherwise, you need to balance risk and potential reward...or lack thereof. In cases where the potential gain in prestige from attending a higher ranked school doesn't necessarily translate to any tangible improvement in job prospects, you would be better-off attending a lower ranked school offering more money. This is especially true at #20-50.

But, having worked in a lot of public interest areas already, I look at that picture and think:

What regulations did that man have to be in accordance with to be allowed to assist that baby? Were they more obtrusive than necessary? Not obtrusive enough?

I've got the law sickness and I've got it bad. I want to know everything there is about law and how it can be used in the public interest.

CLS/NYU are not at the point where you don't need to balance risk/reward. The most recent stats are 70% of OCI participants getting something, which is better but not hugely so than the 60% or so you're seeing at other T14s. The big advantage of CLS/NYU is better jobs for the folks who were going to get jobs anyway. Ie: V10 with top 1/3 grades rather than V50.

While we can split hairs, the difference between non-HYS T13 schools is not that great. Hence, if you would be willing to pay sticker at NYU, sticker at UVA is still a pretty good investment in my eyes. Whether you are willing to pay sticker at either of these schools is a choice that each person has to make on their own after considering their own personal circumstances.
