You're an ignorant douche. Please don't come to the South, there's already far too many of you.

Like, do you engage in feats of knowledge with a random sampling of people from the south ? Do you play them in scrabble, or maybe out at a bar with trivia ? Or maybe, you have statistics that shows the average LSAT of Southern test takers vs Mets fans/People in Pennsylvania ?

Re: Tis the season.
Why are people acting like no one has ever called the south subpar on the intelligence scale? Where are you more likely to find schools teaching I.D.? Where are you more likely to find people who believe that Obama is a Muslim? As a northerner who has lived for the last 8 years in the south, I agree with OP. Let's stop all the crying

Where would you be more likely to find these douchebags? Hint: not Alabama

is a bit odd, I think....I admittedly have a stigma against the south, but Atlanta doesnt seem too bad if you are middle class or better.

I couldn't read most of this thread, I read something about irrational stigma for the south and my brain enraged.
Do you think we all sit around on our porches all day, chewing on hay stalks with our cowboy hats on?

1. People who categorize entire regions based upon stereotypes and chance encounters are actually of low intelligence.
2. People who are of low intelligence lack the mental capacity to make judgments on the collective intelligence of other regions.

FWIW, I'm from the South, live with a black guy, like the Mets, and I'm smarter than fuck.
Does that blow your mind?

Yeah, I really didn't mean to offend anyone. If that was my intent, I would have been a dick in response to everyones comments, but i wasnt. Im just hesitant to alter my lifestyle that much in a place where im really not comfortable.

Ok. Lets be real here - there are perfectly legitimate reasons for not wanting to live in some areas. Myself, I would never want to live in New Jersey, ever. But saying that because the people are "stupid" in the south as your rationale for not wanting to live there is pretty ignorant.
Obviously we all can agree that hicktown, Alabama might carry a little more of that with them than say, Raleigh Durham - which was listed as the #1 smartest city by the dailybeast.com in their 2009 survey. Including Raleigh at #1, Atlanta, Charlotte, Austin, Nashville - all listed as "smarter" than Pittsburgh in their survey.

Im starting to stand by my original comments because of the number of times i have used the phrase 'irrational stigma.' Howd you do on RC?

Perhaps Raleigh Durham is only smart because of an influx of northeasterners going to school there?Sandro wrote:Ok. My thread topic seems to be pretty common. Werent you just asking questions about where you should go and the course of action you should take?

No no no of course it is a legitimate thread topic -- and I actually understand your concerns (this may be the first time in my life that I'm backing up a Mets fan). All I'm saying is that it has turned into something rather goofy.bport hopeful wrote:My thread topic seems to be pretty common. Also, I'm from Philly and my neighbor in Philly goes to Emory for undergrad and he absolutely loves it. Apparently the southern girls are pretty alright.bport hopeful wrote:Fair enough.2things2 wrote:No no no of course it is a legitimate thread topic -- and I actually understand your concerns (this may be the first time in my life that I'm backing up a Mets fan). Maybe join a gym so when those dudes are confrontational you'll be ready to bop 'em over the head. Also, I wouldn't be worried about Philly folk unless you'll be sporting a Mets hat, then it could get a little silly. If I were you I'd join a gym this summer, go all out, maybe take some boxing lessons, and head for Emory... though I don't think it's as bad as you think it is with the meatheads.bport hopeful wrote:Its not the girls im worried about haha. Emory is looking less and less likely. The massive debt scares me. As far as philly goes, I have a fairly visible Mets tattoo.

I love how the dude who is contemplating such great options as Pitt and Seton Hall is also bashing people for their perceived lack of intelligence.
Also, Pittsburgh is a shithole. HTH.

Im not talking about law students alone, Im talking about general public. Take a statistics class.
Ive spent a lot of time in Pittsburgh and really like it. Its one of the nation's top cities on the rise, and the country's number one most livable city, so idk where that came from. But yeah, overall really helpful.
