I'm not that scared of "could" percentages...

Everything short of 100% and greater than 0% is a could percentage. I'd reason a 98% chance of death if you left your house tomorrow would probably keep you in the house.

As someone who spent a decent amount of time in Chile, and is planning on going back, I think that the possibility of a big earthquake shouldn't automatically dissuade you from going there. If you're worried, just inquire about the structure of the building you'd live in and if it complies with anti-earthquake regulations.
