If you want to get into the public sector you should be comparing the schools LRAPs as well.
Edit: and I should add: willing to make sub $65,000 a year.

Yep, I'm willing to make the lower salary (as long as I don't have loan debt) . . .see the appeal in the full ride?

T2 by a landslide because you hate the T4 market, you prefer the T2, and the T4 really sucks in its market. But really, TCR is:

no. you will have a harder time getting this job and would have had some portion of your loan paid back for you at the good LRAP school. oh, and IBR.

What's IBR?

Do I need to be worried about whether a school offers a good LRAP since the federal loans/direct loans have forgiveness programs for public sector and nonprofit work?

IBR is the forgiveness program you're talking about

It's clear that you prefer the T2 and would be happier there. That said, I voted T4 full-ride because I think taking out loans to attend a T2 is a very risky proposition.

That's what I'm afraid of. Is there much of a difference between a T2 and a T4? Is the significant difference between T1 and T2/T3/T4?

Honestly, neither is any good. Which is why I voted for the bad thing that's free.

There are many T2 schools which are regionally viable.

T4 schools are a harder sell, but hey - some people know what they're getting into.

This particular T2 is pretty promising. Its the only one in the City - plus I want to work and live in that City. The bar passage rate is at the state's average and the employment statistics are pretty high (ie. high 80's to low 90's)

The problem is that
angiej wrote:But I feel like I would be foolish to turn down the opportunity to go to law school for free.
ignores the top 1/3 requirement for the T4. What's worse, paying $60k for a T2 in a market it faces no competition in, or paying sticker for two years at a T4 (which could wind up costing even more than that $60k if the T4 is more expensive per year) in a saturated market that its low in the pecking order for, in a city you hate? Ideally, the kind of work you want to do would wind up forgiving your loans anyways, right?

But in the end, the right answer is

OP, you should do what you think is right, but you're really not gonna get any helpful advice unless we know what schools. I can't see a reason for being coy, honestly.

Would the T4 rescind my offer if they read this thread? I've applied but am not yet admitted to the T2. So I don't want to be left with nothing.

Even though I voted for the T2, and I'd probably go to neither and retake, you could always try and negotiate with the T4 school. I'd ask them to remove the top 1/3 scholarship requirement and use the acceptance at the T2 as leverage.

Top 1/3 is a giant gamble considering your degree could be worthless and leave you in debt and jobless.

In fact, failure to make the top 1/3 would probably mean you'd be jobless anyway coming out of the T4... But if there's no debt it wouldn't be nearly as bad.

You have to remember the odds of making top 1/3, are literally 1 in 3. Are you willing to gamble your future on those odds?
