So, I've already applied to WUSTL, with my new lower rank should I hit up Illinois and Minn. as well? I wasn't looking into UIUC but what romo says makes me wonder.

I mean, I know you are looking to prosecute... but what are some other considerations you've got in mind? Would you be set on Chicago, or does the city not matter as much? And you are married, right? How hard would it be for your wife to find a job?

Also, I'm just a n00b 0L so take my advice with a grain of salt, but I swear it seems like every downstate PD/SA went to UIUC or Southern Illinois.

My only requirement = a job. I'd like it to be in prosecution or personal injury law. However, the PI firm would have to start out at or above 100k a year, which is just likely aint happenin'. So, prosecution is my likely IBR happy career for at least 10 years.

More firms doesn't always mean more jobs. But IIRC, I believe jcougar has that information.

You can search by school.

Minnesota = 55 offices/employers at OCI 2008
WUSTL = 141 offices/employers at OCI 2008

It's not an exact science, but so far, it's the best objective evidence anyone has to go on for c/o 2010.

Couldn't find the 2008 NLJ 250 list to compare apples to apples, but...

WUSTL = 141 offices at OCI in 2008 and 27.5% of grads hired to NLJ 250 firms in 2009.
UMN = 55 offices at OCI in 2008 and 19.4% of grads hired to NLJ 250 firms in 2009.

What does that mean in practical terms? WUSTL alums get more interviews and are hired less often, proportionally?

It means WUSTL students are awkward turtles.

But really, I don't know what it means. Keep in mind that St. Louis and Chicago have been slaughtered ITE, so WUSTL and its Big Ten, Chicago-targeting peers have been hurting. I voted UMN due to the lower cost, but I will say this: WUSTL has done a really good job retaining firms and bringing in new firms ITE. If and when things pick back up, I think the large number of OCI firms will make for a good bounceback. Unfortunately, it is unlikely to be a big bounceback for us.

In addition, WUSTL has shifted its focus to small and mid-sized firms via their small firm interviewing programs. I really don't want to come off like an uber-WUSTL troll, but if you want to know more you can PM me.

The NLJ 250 numbers for the c/o 2009 are people who did OCI in 2007. So they're really different figures for different years. I know the "number of firms listed on the NALP directory" is speculative at best, but there's just no other information out on c/o 2010 or especially c/o 2011. So take it all with a grain of salt, but it at least appears that WUSTL has handled the first half of this recession better than others.
