Does Michigan have a significantly better chance of getting you into biglaw or clerkships though? When I look at the statistics, which is the logic behind those rankings, Michigan ranks only 2-3% better than Duke (1% for biglaw and something close to that for clerkships). The next step would be looking at where all those people from Michigan and going to work and where the people from Duke are going to work and see which gives you a better chance of working where you would like to.

Yeah, that was pretty much just a flame. Duke and Michigan really are equal, but I couldn't give the OP the impression I didn't prefer the school I chose.

I think for clerkships, there is a significant difference. Michigan typically places 14% into federal clerkships, and this year they bumped it up to over 20% in federal clerkships. (Michigan historically places 4th when looking at the percentage placed into federal clerkships, after HYS, and close to Virginia (a close 5th) for federal clerkships.)

But, the odds of landing a clerkship are still slim, so I'm not sure how important that consideration should be.

I think for clerkships, there is a significant difference. Michigan typically places 14% into federal clerkships, and this year they bumped it up to over 20%.

Very important for someone wanting a clerkship (like me-not sure about OP). I finally found the numbers and it is 13.9% to 11.7% for clerkships between Michigan and Duke and 51% 49.8% for NLJ250 hires. Still a better school for the same price, but areas of employment differ as do perceived QOL (Ann Arbor is rated the #1 best city to live in America btw--no telling what rank it would be if it wasn't so close to Detroit!).
