Probably the top 20 is good for paying sticker. I'd add GW and Fordham.

If the difference between a higher T2 and a non t-14 T30 school is about 30-40K, is it worth it?

I think you're paying for the location--at least you have the opportunity during the school year for externships in big cities (that's gotta be worth something in itself).najumobi wrote:ehhh...i don't think any of Ford-ham, GW, wustl, bc, bu, or emory are worth sticker.mollie wrote:Probably the top 20 is good for paying sticker. Re: Which non t-14 is worth sticker?
I would argue that I can name a TTT that is worth sticker. At a little over $9,000 a year in state, the University of Mississippi is a bargain despite their rank in the third tier of law school. Same can be said for Nebraska ($11,000), West Virginia ($10,000), Arkansas ($11,000), and New Mexico ($11,000). These schools might not be the highest ranked schools, but they are the only game in town. They still might not be worth sticker, but they are a bargain compared to several fourth tier schools that are charging well over $30,000 a year.

The question of whether any school is worth sticker is based on how badly you want to practice law. Compare the debt of a school to realistic job opportunities and ask yourself how much you want to sacrifice to practice law. That's a metric that varies greatly from person to person.

Re: Which non t-14 is worth sticker?
I'll be paying "sticker" at the University of Washington. But "sticker" is only 20k per year. I'm not likely going to be taking out the full cost of living loans, but even if I did my total debt after three years would be about 100k, which would be manageable even in the worst case scenario that I could end up making 40-50k after law school. I actually wouldn't pay "sticker" at several of the T14, because 200k+ in debt would not be very manageable on anything but a big law salary, which is far from guarantee at most of the T14 ITE.

I would have to agree that U of Washington is a bargain for 20k a year. I would pay sticker.

William and Mary (In-State) is one of the best deals at sticker price. It might be a little pricey out of state for what you get though.
