Where have you seen this? Most people would agree that UVa and Duke are peer schools. To OP: If you've visited both Duke and UVa and both look good, then I say pick UVa because of your slight preference for the environment and your goal of working in DC.Rock Chalk wrote:Good call. I looked around to check the accuracy of the Wikipedia article but the cite I found only had 1990-Present. Thanks for the correction.Doritos wrote:Also, Rockchalk...that bit in wikipedia is not true. http://www.prelawhandbook.com/law_schoo ... _1987_1999 Cornell and Northwestern weren't in top 14 for the first rankings in 1987
Still, I feel like Duke and Virginia are definitely peer schools, and that a shortage of representation often allows Duke to be underrated on TLS. I'm waiting to hear back from Duke, Michigan, and UVA, and aside from receiving more aid from one of them, I think it's an incredibly tough decision despite the fact that TLSers would most likely advise otherwise.

UVa football is only marginally more talented than Duke, but much less entertaining. Also, UVa football fans seem to be by far the least happy sports fans I've ever met. They seem to be constantly disappointed on account of their team's impotence.jnorsky wrote:Uh that is not true what so ever. Duke has basketball and uh, basketball. comparing the football teams of those two schools is ridiculous. UVa has nfl talent role through there all the time, Duke is a glorified high school.

Definitely agree that there is an anti-Dook bias on TLS.Rock Chalk wrote:In all of the posts in which Duke is considered to be in a class below MVP(B) and the decision between Duke and one of them is made to seem quite obvious.aznflyingpanda wrote:Where have you seen this?
Check out the breakdown of peer schools here, for example, or the treatment Duke gets in this thread. I'm not trying to start a huge debate about it, just asserting my opinion that they are indeed peer schools even though Duke often gets the short end of the stick on TLS.

I agree that the highlight of UVa football is cheering for the players that get drafted in the NFLjnorsky wrote: comparing the football teams of those two schools is ridiculous. UVa has nfl talent role through there all the time, Duke is a glorified high school.

Dude, UVA's football team is in another class than Duke's. The blue devils suck, uva still gets top 20 recruiting classes from time to time, no contest.

I find it a bit strange that UVa fans go to smack talk is always about the vaunted recruiting class (the link I posted addresses this point very well)
for some reason all those blue chip football players never lead to something resembling a good football team... must be something in the water

Stumped. These two schools are very similar. I would just check each out and see which you like better on your visit. Neither is much better than the other, etc. Both are excellent.
