I hate those programs that recruit undergrad students with high GPAs that don't have to take the LSAT, but I don't see why more schools don't do it. Pretty sure a dean could score a huge raise by the ranking boost it would bring about.

I agree on both points. It's such an easy way to game the rankings, and it requires minimal effort.Real Madrid wrote:I hate those programs that recruit undergrad students with high GPAs that don't have to take the LSAT, but I don't see why more schools don't do it. that actually makes sense in terms of supply and demand. as captain obvious will testify, LS tuition is more price sensitive now than ever.justonemoregame wrote:Aaaaaand Noww! The data Everyone has been waiting for! .....

Well, hopefully law schools keep jacking up tuition to make up the budget shortfalls from smaller classes, which further disincentivizes attendance, which creates a vicious (virtuous?) cycle that leads to the eventually demise of a good many law schools, which returns balance to the force.

Re: Class sizes and medians (c/o 2015)
I'm working on a comprehensive list of tuition increases since last year, which I will share with everyone when I am finished. One justification I keep noticing on law school websites is that X law school's price is competitive to other schools. Of course, in virtually every instance, the other school's price is exorbitant, so comparisons like this are silly. It's unfortunate that prices continue to go up in this climate, but I hope Quale is right - I hope they price themselves out of business.
Another aggravating thing - Boston University's Dean has a video on the admissions page in which she explains BU's response to the "crisis" in legal education. The first thing she mentions is something about BU showing some sort of restraint in its tuition increase. (So, we've responded by increasing tuition). And what she said isn't even true, it went up by 4%, which is a pretty standard bump.

In case you didn't see it there was a story in the NLJ last week about tuition increases, which said the average increase at private schools was 4%, while public resident tuition went up by an average of 6%. (Inflation was 1.7% last year). It didn't provide a school by school breakdown though, which would be interesting to have.justonemoregame wrote:I'm working on a comprehensive list of tuition increases since last year, which I will share with everyone when I am finished. Dropping medians and class sizes should not surprise you at all. What should surprise you is any school holding its median and class size. That screams Illinois/Villanova.justonemoregame wrote:cornell really surprises me - they have a relatively small class

Does anyone know when a complete list will come out? Is it normally some time late-September?

Real question is, what will the medians be for the newest law school--Concordia:
http://www.law.com/jsp/nlj/PubArticleNL ... 0728131826
"University officials began contemplating opening a law school in Boise, which is about a seven-hour drive from Portland, in 2007. They pointed to an unmet demand for legal education in the city — the closest full-service law school was The University of Idaho College of Law in Moscow, about 300 miles away."
"Annual tuition is $28,500 — well below the average $39,184 for private law schools, according to the ABA."

Regrettably we have to wait for schools to self-release if we want it in a timely fashion ;/. Quoting myself from another thread:nmop_apisdn wrote:Does anyone know when a complete list will come out? Is it normally some time late-September?
KevinP wrote: We basically have to rely on schools to publish this information on their websites for the next few months. Otherwise we have to wait for the U.S. News magazine to release that info in April. LSAC ABA Guide didn't even release it until July.... so the complete data for the C/O 2014 was only available since last month.

Re: Class sizes and medians (c/o 2015)
Cornell needed to find 100 168+ LSATs to maintain their median. They don't get bad press like TTTs do, and there were plenty of these scores to go around the T-13, so I think it's surprising. Maybe they weren't willing to play the splitter game or match schollies or something, but an Ivy school not holding a 168 in a class of about 200 is still surprising.ajax wrote:Dropping medians and class sizes should not surprise you at all. Not when that Ivy school is in Ithaca. Cornell will always struggle with its medians as a result of its location.justonemoregame wrote:Cornell needed to find 100 168+ LSATs to maintain their median.
