You can't fairly compare American and Korean BBQ. It's like ranking Spaghetti and Meatball by region then asking where Lamb and Tuna Fish fit in.

Re: 5 PROS + 5 CONS of YOUR LAW SCHOOL
UC Hastings
Pros:
1. Good professors. With the exception of one visiting prof 1L year, all of mine were excellent. In particular, really damn good LWR/moot court/practice-based classes instructors.
2. Surprisingly good reputation in CA, both lay and among lawyers.
3. Enormous alumni network in CA. (I'm still unsure of how important an alumni network is, but it certainly doesn't hurt.)
4. Very strong extracurricular programs (moot court, trial team, negotiations teams, etc.) and practice-based classes. As a shitigator, I found the competition teams I was on and the related classes to be extremely useful.
5. It's in the Tenderloin (which is also a con, see below). Best place for food in SF, best nightlife IMO, one of the few not laughably expensive neighborhoods in SF. I grew to really love living in the TL.
Cons:
1. Job placement rate is atrocious. The school simply is not worth attending under any circumstances nowadays. It was hit really hard by ITE and it's in a death spiral. It just gets worse and worse every year. Its class size needs to be trimmed by more than half at the very least.
2. Cost. It's so stupidly expensive that I don't know how anyone goes there, much less pays sticker, as almost everyone does because UCs don't give scholarships. I went for near-free and wouldn't even recommend going in the same circumstances.
3. It's in the TL. The TL is a messed up and depressing part of SF. I regularly saw people shooting up, passed out, shitting, etc. I would not want to be a girl in the TL.
4. I'm in a small minority with this, but SF is so fucking overrated. It's prohibitively expensive, always cold, covered in homeless people and their byproducts, the Mexican food is utter shit, and the city is run and overrun by smug faux progressives who love the smell of their own farts.
5. Completely unknown outside of CA.

NYU
Pros:
1. Living in New York is awesome.
2. New York is a great place to do a semester externship.
3. This school is rich as hell. Facilities, fellowships, good LRAP, free trips, free food, free alcohol...
4. Adjunct professors at NYU and Columbia tend to be the most impressive people alive.
5. BigLaw for almost everybody who wants it, awesomely helpful new PILC Director for those who don't.
Cons:
1. Living in New York is expensive.
2. Law students are terrible. Probably not worse here than anywhere else, but still.
3. This school is rich as hell. There's a lot of privilege, and not the self-aware Duke kind of privilege either.
4. There's a 8-hour adjunct cap, and tenured professors are hired for their CVs, not their teaching skills.
5. Non-lawyers in the other 49 states think NYU is where gritty cop characters go to night school.

Kentucky
Pros:
1. Pretty cheap.
2. Good employment numbers.
3. Professors are great. It's a relatively small school so you have the chance to get to know your professors and for the most part they're great about helping you out in anyway possible.
4. Lexington is an under-rated city. (I'm from here so I'm biased on this point)
5. Student tickets to basketball games.
Cons:
1. Stingy with scholly money.
2. Low starting salaries.
3. Better be top ~10% if you want a job outside of the state.
4.The law school building is awful.
5. Student tickets to football games.
Pros:
1. Pretty cheap.
2. Good employment numbers.

New Haven pizza is pretty awesome. But you have to go to New Haven to get it.

Re: 5 PROS + 5 CONS of YOUR LAW SCHOOL
Michigan
Pros
1. I'm convinced the Michigan difference is a thing. Weirdly, students act overly nice to each other as a self-fulfilling prophecy type thing. Dean Z actually remembers things that you wrote in your apps and references them when you speak to her
2. Beautiful buildings. Wedding photos are taken here daily.
3. Students are outgoing, cool, and smart
4. If you can make median, job is almost guaranteed anywhere in the country
5. Professors are awesome + 3 graded doctrinals and 1 legal writing, which is easy and ends 2 weeks before finals
6. Cheapest T14
Cons
1. My eyeball juices freeze from the cold
2. NCAA sports is failing
3. Extreme fear of falling into the bottom third
4. I would argue worst lay prestige of the T14. ("You chose Michigan over Georgetown???")
5. I dont like Ann Arbor, but most people do

Er, by "anywhere in the country" do you mean "New York City?" Or has Michigan like doubled its placement ability since I was looking at schools?logical seasoning wrote:Michigan

Re: 5 PROS + 5 CONS of YOUR LAW SCHOOL
Harvard
Pros:
1. You are pretty much guaranteed biglaw if you want it. Federal clerk and government placement is excellent too.
2. Very strong career services (for both public and private sector jobs) and probably the best alumni network in the world.
3. A ridiculous breadth of course offerings.
4. Tons of lay prestige.
5. Many excellent professors (who may or may not overlap with the professors who are excellent scholars).
Cons:
1. $$$$$
2. Many professors are horrible. Sometimes you can avoid them, sometimes you can't.
3. Boston is overpriced, has terrible weather, and is full of awful people.
4. Students are generally unfriendly (unless you're part of the same clique), stressed-out, and gunnery.
5. The administration is bureaucratic, unfriendly, and terrible about accommodating very reasonable requests. They will treat you like you are completely fungible and unimportant, and it gets frustrating after a few years.
