As I opened this page, panties of various women sitting around me dropped collectively (I'm in a library). I guess RealTalk et al. were correct.CrimsonCal wrote:lol... three times, if you include my screen name!tomhobbes wrote:So, did you just drop the H-bomb? Well, nobody ever claimed that the H-bomb was a boxer-dropper.

I think a lot of people on this thread are just jealous cause they didn’t get in and they’ll therefore never have the chance to drop H-bombs. Just sayin’.

Also,

While I know mike and RealTalk are trolls, it is definitely worth noting that the "H-bomb" is at best relatively meaningless and at worst a huge turn-off to any worthwhile woman.
Finally, OP, I'm so happy you're going to Harvard and won't be in classes with me next year. Have fun in January!

Laugh all you want, Crackberry. I, for one, am on the verge of tears thinking about my lonely future. What woman would want to be with a man who can't even get into Harvard?crackberry wrote:Also,![]()

The most common reaction I've gotten (when someone asks about acceptances):
"Oooo, you gonna pay my billz"

Re: How do people seriously turn down Harvard Law???
Not quite sure yet, actually. I’m really, really torn. I’ve already submitted my deposit to Stanford, but Harvard is becoming more and more appealing for a few reasons. On the one hand, Harvard is appealing because I’m not exactly sure what type of law I’d like to practice (I’d probably going to do Biglaw, but my instincts are definitely public-interest oriented) and I think the size/breadth of classes/student groups/clinics/etc. of Harvard may help me decide what type of law I’d like to get into. I like Cambridge and wouldn’t mind moving back to the East Coast for a few years and most the attorneys that I’ve talked to at big firms in SF and LA have said either that they have no preference between H and S, or that they would (marginally) prefer an H grad to an S grad (nobody in the admittedly limited sample I spoke to said they would prefer an S grad over an H grad). I also *might* want to do something outside of law for a few years (business, finance, etc.) and I think the HLS name will carry me further in that regard.crackberry wrote:Does this mean you're turning down Stanford?sfdreaming09 wrote:Am i really going to be forced to sit in a class with you next fall?mike7174 wrote:I think a lot of people on this thread are just jealous cause they didn’t get in and they’ll therefore never have the chance to drop H-bombs. On the other hand, Stanford was always my number 1 choice. I 100% sure I want to practice in CA (and 99% sure in SF) after graduation and the connections that I would make at Stanford would probably help in that regard. I also liked the culture at S a lot more than H (went to both ASW’s)…the people seemed more laid back, more public-interest oriented, less cutthroat, etc.
So yeah, I’m kinda confused right now. I’m thinking about sending a deposit to HLS before their May 1st deadline just to give myself a little more time to debate the issue. I’ll def let you know what I end up doing though.

Example:
If i had a serious significant other, my entire family, and childhood friends in SoCal, i would take a full ride at UCLA over harvard any day.

Re: How do people seriously turn down Harvard Law???
Isn't sending multiple deposits, uh, seriously frowned upon, if not grounds for revocation of admission?
As you both no doubt gathered from the Stanford ASW, virtually everyone there was choosing between HLS and SLS. Clearly there is no "wrong" choice, but I'd counsel you both to do what feels right. Don't overthink it. If you think you'll regret not going to one school or the other, that's a powerful feeling that I, for one, would not ignore. Clearly your decision can't be made on a whim, but with only 10 days left or whatever, you do have to make up your minds. You've probably both done your research, talked to people, etc. If, in your gut, you want to go to Stanford, go to Stanford. If you have the same feeling about Harvard, go to Harvard.
I don't pretend to know either one of you, but to me it sounds like sfdreaming wants Stanford and ConMan wants Harvard. Clearly my opinion means nothing, but that's just the sense I get from interacting with you both. Either way, you can't really go wrong. Make sure you both keep me posted.

Is it? I sent in two (though not to Harvard, Stanford, OR Yale) deposits to buy myself more time. Now I'm worried.crackberry wrote:Isn't sending multiple deposits, uh, seriously frowned upon, if not grounds for revocation of admission?

You want to check the policies of those schools. At some places I think it's fine. Some (NYU, for instance) require you to withdraw from all other schools that have accepted you.

Both of them told me it was non-binding when I asked them.

Ok, first off.. OP is obviously a troll and a ridiculous one at that. You can't see how anyone would turn down Harvard? You're an idiot.
Secondly, obviously I'd take Y over all, but I am 95% sure I would choose Stanford over Harvard if i got into both. Stanford is smaller, less pretentious, and much more beautiful than Harvard while offering very similar job prospects/opportunities

Re: How do people seriously turn down Harvard Law???
beautiful description of Harvard Law: --LinkRemoved--
"Every year, thousands of the most perfect young Americans apply for admission to Harvard Law School. And every year, the fabled institution of Oliver Wendell Holmes, Henry Kissinger, and five ninths of the current Supreme Court, the school whose name inspires reverence from garbagemen and presidents alike, replies with a thin envelope containing a single sheet of woven-cotton stationery that says, essentially, Fuck you.
Harvard Law School seeks inner beauty. It desires passion, creativity, interestingness in its applicants and thinks nothing of rejecting Yale's top undergrad if that undergrad is an anal-retentive bore. Furious parents of straight-A student-council presidents have been known to make the pilgrimage to Cambridge to demand justice for their rejected offspring, and admissions officers might gently suggest the word intangibles to explain the kid's shortcomings. Hip Harvard Law School students take in the spectacle and smirk.
Smirking, in fact, might be the official facial expression of Harvard Law School. At least it was when I was graduated from there ten years ago. And why not? As a Harvard Law student, you've got the world by the balls. The degree, the most potent, fearsome weapon in all of academia, confers upon its holder a near guarantee of riches, freedom, prestige, and happiness. Listening to those parents hopelessly invoking the virtues of their well-bred sons and daughters, we knew we had it made. We knew we were the complete package. We knew we were golden."
