The statement also confirms what everyone already knows: the leaked rankings are legit.US News and World Report will release its 2010 -11 Ranking of Law Schools. As you may have heard, UB Law School will be listed in the third tier of law schools. As you can imagine, we are all disappointed and frustrated by this outcome. UB Law has reached significant new milestones in our progress over the last several years. The median GPA and LSAT scores are the highest in our history. Employers give our graduates superior marks for quality. We have an excellent faculty, and have attracted star new faculty members to UB Law. We have worked hard to build upon and enhance our program and curriculum, most notably our Skills Program. Our Law School has experienced significant variations in our ranking over the last several years. This volatility points to a serious problem with the integrity and credibility of the methodology. During one of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, the factor which seemed to be the mot at play for this year’s ranking was the employment rate. We have been working diligently to improve our ranking and will continue to do so. Tonight, I ask that you take advantage of the students, administrators, and professors gathered here to discuss the wonderful qualities about UB Law that encouraged you to apply!

2 out of the 3 schools that didn't admit me fell in the ranking. They should've known better.
SO glad I didn't decide to go to Alabama.

This is so pathetic. They say that the rankings lack integrity/credibility and yet they strive to increase their ranking. What they should say is that UB is the same school as it was last year as it is this year.scalozo wrote:Buffalo released the following statement during their admitted students online chat tonight:

So this basically what UB is saying "US News sucks, but we're determined to increase our rankings, so we're going to start to be obsessed with numbers the way IUB is."

So true. Pretty hypocritical. It's the same every year. All of the schools that go up in the rankings praise the rankings for recognizing the quality of their programs and all of the schools that go down denounce the rankings as flawed.honestabe84 wrote:This is so pathetic. Mizzou is -28?! Wow. I heard they were seriously suffering in employment but I did not think it was going to be this bad.
Anyone have any explanations for:
Mizzou (above)
Hawaii (Where did this come from? ITE Hawaii has to be dying)
Hofstra (Oversaturated Market with a mediocre school with a even more mediocre name recognition?)
St. Johns (See Hofstra)
Temple (Temple still places very well in top firms in Philly and has mild portability to DC and NY, what gives?)
Miami (I just dont really like this diploma mill. That market is tough and Miami gives out JDs like candy, why the rise?)
West Virginia (I have no ties to this school but am actually very happy they finally cracked the t2. SHould dominate that market since no one graduating out of state will want to come TO WV, but with that said WV is as small of a market as you will find, so why the jump?)
On a side note, I have a pure and utter hate deep within my soul for WIsconsin and it sickens me to see them in the t30. WHy oh why...

Settled! They were real! All of my favorite schools rose except for one...and everybody knows what that school is. But this year's numbers will kick in for next year and that school will be back where it belongs (top-40 or better.
Go Chicago!

Why in the world would anyone hate Wisconsin? It's one of the nicest law schools out there and it just sits in Madison and does its thang. Diploma privilege throughout the state, and plus Madison has decriminalized pot.

I am a 1L at ASU. Statistically, we have the strongest class the law school has seen, ASU has great student/faculty ratio, and and perhaps USWNR finally realized that Phoenix is a better place than Tucson to launch a legal career. Really I think the rankings just affirm that ASU and UA are very equal schools.Yellowcard wrote:Does anyone know how ASU managed to jump so many spots and overcame Arizona in the rankings? What statistically does ASU have that makes it so much different than last year? Can anyone explain this without posting a picture of ASU cheerleaders?

Eh, I guess what I said was a little bit extreme. I had heard through the grapevine that this was technically true, but it seems to only be effectively true.webbylu87 wrote:Wait. What?!JCougar wrote:...plus Madison has decriminalized pot.

The DA's office has simply said it won't prosecute anyone for under 25 grams. Not that anyone should care when faced with a grueling law school curriculum...

Yeah, 25 grams wouldn't be nearly enough. I wouldn't be caught dead with that little weed on me.JCougar wrote:Eh, I guess what I said was a little bit extreme. Most rankings are arbitrary. Alabama could be ranked 15 and you're still not going to get a job in NYC with it.

Re: USNWR Rankings Released...Seriously
Ummm...last time I checked "location" is not one of the criteria used in the USNWR rankings. Employment at a graduation was a pretty big difference between the two schools (ASU 90%, UA 77%). I've written in other threads that I find it hard to believe that two very similar schools have such disparate employment at graduation rates. I think this speaks to manipulation of data that goes on behind the scenes. I agree with mepg that the schools are pretty equal.mepg wrote:I am a 1L at ASU. Still, look at the NLJ 250 statistics or judicial clerkship placements and you'll see that UA is head and shoulders above ASU.

I get the fact that T2 and TTT are pretty arbitrary, but you're being ridiculous. It comes down to region, but BU/BC>>>NE, Fordham>>>>>>Cardozo, etc. Rankings are still worthwhile beyond 20. If you're going to make these claims at least say it's meaningless after T13, aka, GTTTTTTTown.mistergoft wrote:Lol rankings beyond 20 (maybe 30) are arbitrary.
